Official Stanford REA Admissions 2014 Discussion Thread

This is the thread for all discussion of this year's admissions. It is to be linked to in the official decisions thread (which I am currently making).

Essentially the purpose of this thread is for all REA applicants (or anyone wishing to chime in) to gather, discuss, and comment on the events and individuals of this year's decisions.

For example, all congratulations and condolences are welcome here. There will be a small link at the bottom of each decisions post linking here for you to comment on that person's application or decision. For clarity, I suggest addressing the person by his/her username or, if you swing that way, his/her post number.

It is also meant to be used as a means of discussion on the nature of the process as a whole.
For example, how harsh or lenient it seemed this year-- was it especially Stanford Slaughterous? You could also comment on any particular trends you noticed in the profiles of accepted or rejected applicants...
(But please, for the love of all things good, let's not let any AA discussions get out of hand. There's a bigger thread on AA in one of the more general admissions subforums in CC, and I feel that this thread should be focused on Stanford specifically, not affirmative action in general.)

That all being said, I would like to throw out a huge GOOD LUCK to all this year's REA applicants!
(As well as a huge congratulations for the two known already accepted QB applicants!)

Okie dokie, official decisions thread made.

I know these kinds of discussion threads tend to die or fizzle out quickly, so I'll see if I can inject some life into this one, haha.

Since decisions are still a week off, it's fine to speculate for now.

How do you guys think CC will fare this year?
Last year was an especial low, truly earning the "Stanford Slaughter" title. Do you think it'll be that bad this year?

I feel that with the increase of applicants, it may very well be. However, with two already accepted QB, I wonder if CC's turnout won't be quite so bad.
(Of course, they were brilliant applicants, and it's possible that any rejected QBers going here just didn't want to post. Who knows?)

I think the "slaughter" last year was greatly exaggerated, mostly due to the shocking quality of the rejected applicants. In reality, the acceptance rate was somewhere around 25%, which is, all things considered, very high. I think this year will either be much higher or much lower. There's no real logic behind that, though; just a hunch.

In other news, I already prepared my post, with the exception of the decision and "why do you think you were ____?" portions. Really, though, I might as well fill it in for rejection... :P

I already filled out the form for rejection so that I won't feel so bummed filling it out next tuesday, should I be rejected. Which is what I am expecting so that I won't be disappointed.

Will the decision be made at exactly 3 pm, or will it be a bit late? 3 pm Pacific is midnight here, and I have school on Wednesday, so I hope I won't have to wait till 9 pm or something like that

So have we decided if it's kosher for QB applicants to post on the REA thread after your decisions are received?

Oh, that's totally fine. You're absolutely welcome to post your decision in the REA thread on decisions day.

Also, decisions were released at 5 last year, Rajna. Looks like it'll be either a late night or an early morning for you, haha.

I know. I've been feeling the same thing.
Since maybe an hour or so ago, it's really sunk in that these decisions are really coming. They're happening. They're probably already made. The email I get sent Tuesday could very well completely determine what happens in the next four years of my life.
It's heart-stopping and nerve-wracking and all too incomprehensible at the same time.

A few paragraphs of text, a few lines of a few words, all so short and yet all so important. It's so hard to wrap your head around, though my stomach seems to be attempting to do so on itself.

I've just grown to love Stanford so much.
Hasn't everyone...

^I echo Prussia!'s sentiments exactly

It's frustrating to know that they're already done...
I'm really hoping that we find out Friday, I don't know how much longer I can wait.

It's equally disheartening to think about how much thought/anxiety/anticipation that most of us are putting in just to get a rejection.

My heart just can't take much more of this. It doesn't feel real, and yet it feels all too real.

^My thoughts exactly. It's so crazy how in one week my life over the next four years could turn down one of two different paths in one e-mail. And I just can't help but love Stanford more and more as time goes on.

Yeah, it's really getting to me now; 1 week....

I know I shouldn't use this letter to measure the value of my life, but....

Good luck for everyone!

It's good to see that other people are also feeling nervous about the decisions! It certainly doesn't help having every other person stop me in the halls to tell me how many days until EA decisions... Stanford's been my top choice school since as long as I can remember, and I'm certainly hoping that I'll get in, but I'm confident God will get me accepted at and lead me to the right college, be it Stanford or the local community college!

Any news on whether they might release it on the Friday before again this year? What do you guys _honestly_ think that they'll do?

Thanks and good luck to everyone, with a special shout out to Prussia!, who I think should definitely get in for being so active in the Stanford forums.

I think I'm gonna practice covering up my emails and revealing the first letter. So on the actual day it wouldn't just come all at once. I could see a "C" or an "I" or... and then I'll decide what to think/do from there.
