Stop crying "troll" every time you guys are jealous. Stanford has been known to send out likelies every year (only a few). Threads like this have come up every year for the past 3 years, usually around the same time, saying the same thing. Congrats on getting into stanford!

He has one post. This is an obvious troll. Even if it isn't, it really does not affect the rest of us. Let it go guys.

^ how is it an obvious troll? He might have gotten it and made an account to tell you guys. Honestly, that sounds like a better story than creating an account just to troll.
I don't know how you correlate trolling and low post counts. please look at the thread in the Stanford forum about early approval letters. (posted by Handela92 or Handala92)

Why troll like this, he/she has nobody to impress. Sure, it seems like I'm making a big deal out of this, but I dont think the OP deserves to be called a troll.

It is a troll post. I've read the likely letter, and it definitely does NOT tell students that they were admitted outright. This person is just trying to spark jealousy.

futurexreject, I don't think its a matter of jealousy, I recognize bigmike, njds and pigsatsea, and if I'm not mistaken two of them have already been admitted to stanford and the other (pigs) has recieved a likely letter from columbia. I am not one to judge, nor am I going to accuse this person of being a troll. But there is no WAY they managed to read the application and accept it in a month's time..they only tell you that you are LIKELY for admission because they have yet to read the otther 20k applications. They don't know, maybe you are extremely weak this year and there were a ****load of really outstanding applicants in the remaining pile, they will never ever admit you early unless you applied SCEA..

^Agreed. I'm skeptical about anyone who claims to have gotten a likely if they're reluctant to post the whole letter.

^ that, and it simply does not make sense..Also keep in mind that the OP has not responded, and he/she has only one post ever on CC.. A little suspicious

To be fair, this is the sort of thing I could see a CC lurker making an account about, which would explain the first-post aspect.
But a letter guaranteeing acceptance this early is, afaik, some sort of error [or fictitious.]

| Does Stanford send likely letters?
Well, I don't know for sure.
But, the last poster seems pretty reliable.

guys, S does send a likely letter that explicitly states that "you are admitted." every year there are doubters. but it's true. i got one last year, and it too raised a lot of speculation about its veracity (even after posted the entire letter). this year i already know of another individual getting it from my high school. so let the acceptee celebrate, and the rest hope you may be just as lucky or wait it our until; end of march.

Uhh... your letter didn't say that. Here it is, copied from your post last year (with the spelling errors): Quote:
Febryary 2, 2009
xxx
xxx
xxx
Dear xxx,
It gives great pleasure to inform you that initial review of your application indicated that you will be offered admission to Stanford. This early approval is a tribute to your extraordinary achievements as a student and scholar. ....
We will hold a place for you in the freshman class and send you a formal announcement of your admission in early April by letter and email. Information about Admit Weekend, scheduled for April 23-25, as well as details about your enrollment will follow with that letter. ....
signed
Dean of Admissions
handwritten note next to signature: "come to Stanford."
| It doesn't say that "you have been admitted" or anything like that.

^ pigs, there are various typos, but a friend of mine was recruited to stanford and didn't end up signing a LOI (now goes to UVA), but he received the exact same one!
