@andreaval The US process starts when the app is released online (which is what we're all waiting for right now!), which consists of the online-only portion, that has essays and questions for the applicant, and forms to print and give to a teacher, counselor, extracurricular advisor, and your parents.
This application is due in January.
Then, in late February, you find out whether or not you made it to the interview, which would then be in march or april.
Finally, those who went to the interview find out whether or not they got in by the end of April.

I e-mailed the UWC-USA admissions people and they just got back to me and said the application should be out on Nov. 9th

This just adds to the list of reasons why Friday's going to be the best day of my life.. I'm not the biggest believer in superstitions or anything, but maybe it's good luck that the app will come out on my 16th birthday

Also, the official response on the main facebook page is that it'll be up this week or next. So either it'll be up on Friday or the final release date will be announced then.

I was looking at the app from last year and it asks the counselor to rank the students. My school doesn't do that though (thankfully. I get good grades but theres too many geniuses at my school). Do you think that would hurt my chances?

Oh, that's such a better system than the Mexican one!
For my UWC term, we had to take an exam, and only 90 candidates were chosen from there, and then those went to a "picnic" and did activities, then less were picked from there, these chosen ones went to a camp, and finally only 15 went to interviews, from which only 10 were picked for the scholarship...

I don't like this system because it's just a matter of the counselors liking you... They don't take into account other stuff, and if THEY don't feel you're good for it, you're not chosen. And they are just alumni that graduated high school 2 or 3 years ago. :/

@andreaval oh, that's scary. especially with the 15 narrowing down to 10 - it's way worse when a majority makes it than half and half. I'm really grateful for the american system!

Sent my application off today. Sure hopes it gets there by Friday. Some complications and delay with the address because couriers don't send packages to PO boxes, but I'm sure gonna kick myself if it doesn't get there before closing date, cause it was so expensive. Don't think I'm going to even get an interview, and apparently the acceptance rate of students from Singapore is like 2%. This waiting is going to drive me nuts.

@lindzmm I didn't see your post about rankings til just now - honestly, I think if you have good grades it won't matter. Ranking was most likely to have an idea of what your grades meant in context - I doubt most schools are like this, but an extreme example would be if you had all Bs and one A and you were ranked first - this could mean that the classes were simply very hard.

@JRRTolken: i don't quite know how to describe it, but trust me when i say that people here aren't *tailored* to perfection by their parents. i don't know where you're applying from, but even though extracurriculars may be a great addition, i think the admissions officers really look at whether or not you believe in the movement and support it.

i forget who asked (the British person who lived in North Africa) but i think the fact that you speak so many languages is really incredible. i think UWC is looking for students who are willing to embrace the opportunity, who would use their newfound friends, co-years, and housemates (lol that sounds funny) to explore the world and initiate positive change, no matter how big or small, everywhere they go. i think if you're really interested in that and aren't just interested in going around to different places just to party or something -- as in, you're exploring the world because you're eager to discover different cultures and ways of living, some of which would consist largely of partying (such as, say, barcelona or koh samui or something lol), not just to take pretty pictures and to look at the superficial side of things.

long winded, unconcise answer... hahaha.
