I'm so excited for everyone who's interested in applying to UWC! I was going to apply in my 10th year of high school (i'm also born later in the year) but then there was some complications with my national committee, because I'm currently (and was) an international student, I couldn't apply through my national committee. Anyway, there's more to the story but I ended up staying at my current international school. I have a friend who got that year though (2011)! I'm a senior now and she attended UWC in her junior year -- she's really loving it. The community is so amazing and the philosophy behind the school is impeccable. For anyone who's really interested in a multicultural learning environment, UWC is the place for you! I can't go into too much detail because I don't go there, but I've met some of the people that do, it's such an amazing school.
Although, I never had the problem of being "homesick" because I've been overseas and at an international school for my entire high school period, but for those who are worried about that: dont! UWC is a once in a lifetime opportunity -- and it's only for two years! Throughout the process, the independence the school requires of its students will really help the students be prepared for college. (and because of it's growing popularity and it's extreme selectivity, not all who want to go can get in).
But to everyone who's interested and applying: best of luck! I hope for anyone who decides on going, you'll find yourself loving everyone a UWC can provide it's student
