| What exactly is the study abroad program? What exactly is the study abroad program? I kinda have an idea of it; the program let's a student go to another country to take some classes or something. If that's possible, can the student pick where he or she wants to go?

| sfboy987,
When a college student studies abroad, he chooses a country. So if your interest is in French language and culture, you will go to France. If it's in Korean, you will go to South Korea. |

| NO!!!! That's not totally true........There are many ways to study abroad and for many reasons. My daughter and IR/econ major is currently doing peace and justice studies in Spain, with a non-her university study abroad program. University afflilited study abroad programs can be a money making situation for your university, but there are many, many other choices out there. Go to your university study abroad office and do some research. |

| crabbylady,
I don't see how what you suggested in any way contradicts what I said. I merely meant to suggest that you can go wherever you like. I never suggested that you are limited only to your university's programs. |

| UCLAri,
Relax! You said that if "you interest is in French language and culture, you will go to France. If it's in Korean, you will go to South Korea."
All is am suggesting is there are many reasons besides an interest in a particular language and culture to study abroad. And there are many options available. |

| crabbylady,
Err...I'm already lounging with my feet up! I don't see what more I can do to relax.
Of course there are many reasons to go abroad. I was just suggesting that you can go wherever you please. But language is a bit deal, in my opinion, and should factor in greatly. |

| After all, it doesn't do one much good to know Vietnamese and then go to Russia. In any case, I myself am deciding between France and Vietnam for my study abroad time. |

| crabbylady, he said that if one had an interest in a particular language and culture one should go to the respective country of that particular language and culture.
He did not say that one has to have an interest in a particular language and culture to go to a certain country... |

| ... I go because it's like a nice long vacation. My school has lots of study abroad programs during the odd semesters(summer, winter, etc) and there's nothing better than studying on the beach in Barbados over your winter break! It gets some boring yet required classes out of the way for me. |
