study abroad or stay in colombia

I have always thought that I wanted to study abroad, but recently I spoke to a very smart person and he told me that its better to study in your own country because otherwise you will missout on a lot of contacts that you make in collage.
What do you think

I think it depends on the career, and wether or not you plan to work in your country. if your are going to law school you HAVE to study in the place were you are going to work or if your are going to start a political career you should also stay.

lol what a coincidence i have recently have a similar talk with some people regarding where to study, and our final conclusion was basically: study where you plan to live , and its true, the connections you make in school and collage can help you a lot in you future life.

I think that it depends what you want to study, or where you want to study. If you don't get accepted to anything good in the US, then obviously staying in Colombia is much better. But say you get accepted into Harvard or into MIT, then going to the US to study would be a much more interesting choice. If you stayed here, then you would wonder all of your life what it would have been like to study with the smartest people in the world, and you would probably regret it.

I think that both choices are very good but you just have to decide which one is the best for your life and which one is going to make you a happy person.
