UC system is great. Plenty of country options, usually at some of the best universities in each country, with a wide range of length, semester, a special focus programs. A relatively high percentage of people go (which translates to a lot since they're huge public schools), pretty cheap to go abroad bcuz you'd pay UC tuition, and you get to meet students from all the different UCs everytime.

UC system also offers travel study.

Yes, Kzoo is a great place.

My son, an intern in the Pitt Study abroad office last year, said that the best in the country is U of Minn as far as state school. Pitt is great for study abroad, esp. for the motivated student, as they accept most programs, AND was cheaper than our out of state tuition, depending on program.

part of me had always wished that i had gone to Kzoo instead of michigan state. their study abroad program is excellent.

but i would also highly recommend MSU for anyone considering study abroad, but who also isn't weary of larger state schools.

I'm not familiar with MSU's study abroad programs, but one difference between State and K College is likely the tone on campus about study abroad. S is a rising soph at K and study abroad is talked about not as, will you be going, but where and when. Virtually every student goes, including kids with year-round heavy commitment EC's like my athlete S. Accommodations are made to allow all students to have the experience. The cost is equal to staying on campus for the equivalent time period (excluding add'l travel) and merit scholarships are applied as well. Since it's one of the components of the K Plan, it's a big priority of the college.
