Spring in NYC/Visiting Students Programs

While I do hope to study in a foreign country, I've also been looking into domestic study abroad options such as the "Spring in New York" programs that are available at NYU and Barnard. I go to a HUGE, Midwestern state university and think that this would give me a chance to experience a different type of school. Plus, the NYC internships that are provided would be SO beneficial in helping me to explore the careers that I hope to pursue (not to mention the experience of living in New York City). Has anybody done one of these programs (or a similar one)? Was it very difficult to get into? Overall how satisfying was your experience?
