United Worlds College

****United Worlds Colleges (sorry i meant WORLDS)
HI im interested into applying to get into a UWC for my senior year, from what a read and heard its a great school education that provides the IB diploma and a chance to study in another country and meet new ppl also many many others things. What im asking is has anyone attended one ?,(and if so what do you think you did make yourself apeal to them more over the others) what were the pros and cons of attending one-----or applied and didnt get chosen , is it really that competitive ? what gives someone a better chance to get selected.--Any info. would be nice.

thanks alot

Hey, I applied and was accepted. I eventually didn't attend (family issues and what not more than anything else), but I can tell you about the selection process. You fill out the application first, and it's just like an application to a four year college. Then they pick finalists to be interviewed. The interview is in depth but relaxed. The people who go there seem to really love it and they made me really excited about it. Then if you interview well you're in! Best of luck to you, it seemed like a great opportunity.

As for what will help you get in, just work hard on your essays, get good recommendations, and practice a little for the interview. If you get used to speaking comfortably in that kind of setting it will help a lot.

I can help you if you are still interested in attending UWC. The correct name is United World Colleges but if you are talking about a single of them you remove the s at the end of college. The national or regional commitees have have their own criteria. Your involvment in your community play an important role, your academic life is important too, special talent and so on. The impact that you will make on the selection commitee will be also depend on how your iterview goes and how you interact with your other peers during the camps and other selection activities. UWC students differ greatly regardless of their countries. So what help someone gets in might not applied to others. There is no formula to get into UWC like some people to get into competitive colleges. UWC just want you, the best or the worse of you. Where are you coming from? It is good that you chose to apply to UWC. I guarantee that the two years, whether you spent them abroad or at UWC USA, will be one of the most unforgetable double digits of your life. You will never forget UWC whether it is because you disliked it or loved the time you spent there.

just an FYI -- the UWC-USA committee didn't do the camps/all day program thing last year, just an interview. No interaction with peers or anything, nor any other selection activities. Just a tour of the campus (if you interviewed at Armand Hammar) and an interview and meeting with the parents.
