Cairo

The American University in Cairo has an all English curriculum and some pretty amazing courses. Cairo is much safer than you imagine (except if you are driving your own car) Public transportation is good. The University will be moving to a new campus next year. There are many students from Arabic speaking nations there and excellent instruction, so if you want that total immersion experience outside the classroom you can get it.

My daughter is there currently. I thought I would post it here for those interested.
Her roommate attended a semester in Jordan and said it was wonderful.

We checked it out while in Cairo last summer... my own D might be interested in spending time there while in college (she's a rising HS senior).

Is your daughter back? How was her experience?

Thanks for posting this. I'm fluent in Arabic and would love to go to Egypt for a year... of course my mother has her reservations due to safety.

The American University is in an awesome, (I think) safe location. It would be an amazing experience I am sure. Do you mind if I ask how you acquired your fluency?

I have a slight obsession for learning new languages and spend at least half of my free time studying them.
I took a few classes in college just to get the gist of it, had some of my friends whose native language are Arabic speak with me in Arabic to pick up the language quicker, and an absurd amount of studying on my own and using online tools. It took three years, but I have most of it down.
