Study Abroad -Texas in Austin vs Miami

Which of these two options would be the best for an australian traveling to the usa for a 6 month period. I consider the american experience(fun) more important than university prestige etc

In Miami, you're going to get a lot of clubbing/dancing/beaching, and it literally feels like another country with all of the Hispanics.

In Texas, you're going to get a lot of frat parties/school spirit/football/all-around American experience.

If you're looking at University of Miami vs. Texas Austin, then prestige is pretty much negligible as they are basically on the same level.

I'd say Texas as you can find pretty beaches and dance clubs in Australia, whereas Texas is completely and totally unique.

Austin is the live music capitol of the world. The clubs and bars on 6th street are very famous, too. The beaches in Austin are on lakes, and the gulf coast will likely be unreachable at about 3.5 hours away.

As for prestige, if you're in business or engineering, Texas will be considerably better, otherwise they're pretty even.

If your six months will include September, October, November, go for Texas. The cultural experience of Longhorns Football is unlike any other. (I'd choose Texas all year round for the reasons noted above, but wanted to say, seriously, Texas in the fall is something else.)

Austin has the sophistication of a big city but the friendliness and small town feeling in its neighborhoods. You will love the niceness of the people. They love to convince you that Texas is the best place on earth. Barbecue, Mexican food, great music, cold beer in longnecks, pretty girls, handsome men. Longhorn Football. Bevo.

Austin, for sure. It's one of the most fun cities around. Tons of independent businesses and quirky people as well as more classic school spirit experiences. UT is also one of the best public universities in America.

I'm from Texas (San Antonio), live here, and don't really care for it -- but it's home, hahaha -- So I would obviously choose Miami.

OMG Austin for sure! It's a beautiful city and there is alot of diversity. UT is a really good school and you can always party it up on 6th street : ) haha. But yeah I love Austin (I'm from Texas) and if I would stay in Texas for college I'd go there.
