Is it too late to ask around now? A lot of my summer options have disappeared so I'm trying to find some I'm really interested in and research sounds infinitely more enjoyable than a random job

| question about approaching professors in college
Hi,
I am trying to reach out to professors to see if they can help me mentor and particiate to achieve atleast some goals in my project. What would be the appropriate way to reach them. Should I just look up in university websites and send them an email.
I appreciate your advice.

^ Yes.
You need to be careful and write a really good template email and be ready to email lots of people. Also, attaching a resume is sometimes a good idea.

| Summer Research Programs vs. Independent Research
I'm just wondering if, as a high school student, it's better to do a summer research program (like Clark Scholars in TTU, UCBerkeley's SHARP, or UCLA's HSSRP) or to talk to a professor on your own and do research outside of a program. At this point I'm doing independent research at a university this summer, but does it make a difference?
In summer research programs, is there more/less of a likelihood that you'd get to do cutting-edge/bleeding-edge work, as compared to independent research? (That's what I originally wanted to do.) Or is it just like either way you probably won't be doing cutting-edge stuff, since you won't have enough prior knowledge?

So, I had an interview with a prof. I wanted to work with, much thanks to this thread. The problem is, there are certain lab/safety concerns involved in the lab, and my prof. says I probably shouldn't do it as a high school student, due to insurance and appointment paperwork. She says I can still write reports for her however. What should I do?

| Marketing Internship
Does anyone have tips as to what I can do in a market internship? Because I want to study marketing, and I want an internship for it, but if I got it what would I actually do? Because I don't need a lab, or any chemicals my school doesn't have... Please help...

I just want to say that it's never too late. I had an internship from June until now and I thought that I didn't want to spend a month doing nothing until school started so I emailed around fifty professors. To my surprise, nearly 20 offered to meet me to discuss the logistics or possibility of doing research, and I will probably have some tough decisions. So remember, if you're interested, there is never no harm in trying, even if summer is more than halfway over.

I am a biotechnology student ,currently in my 3rd year of bachelors in India. I am looking for internships in US universities. My GPA is not that great due to some personal issues that cropped up during exams ,so I failed a few exams in college but I have potential to do research and I love science. I am currently working on a research project in India and my report is due in November. I would like to do a summer research internship in the US in May-June, for 2 months. My dates can be flexible but this is the most convenient time. Please give me some information on this.

I was going to e-mail some researchers and professors about working in their labs during the school year. Do you think this will be possble? Also, are there any suggestions you guys can make about formulating the e-mail? I want to work in the labs to gain some more experience. I also want to say that I would be willing to do anything asked of me without sounding desperate. Any suggestions?

I understand how this would work for the natural sciences, but what would you be asking for when e-mailing someone like a political science professor? Surely there aren't any experiments you're looking to do?

Would it be okay if I contacted professors who don't work at a college/university I want to go to, but they just work near me?
