Hey everyone!

I'm applying to TASP this year too and I just started my essays last weekend lol. I put them off for a long time because they seemed kind of daunting to me at first. Well, I just finished writing them and I've learned so much about myself from them. My intellectual interest was about something I hated, and it made me burn from anguish. My future essay actually helped me determine more closely what I was interested in and what I want to do in the future. My critical analysis made me feel like a scholar. My personal conflict essay (probably the most impacting) brought tears to my eyes upon seeing how mature I've gotten over the past years.

I am so grateful for TASP. It's changed my life even without any form of acceptance to the program. For all those thinking it's too late to write your essays - just do it.

are the short responses to recent honors and award, volunteering, and intellectual interest on the TASP application really limited to just 462 characters? it seems really short, but i just wanted to double check with someone on here. thanks.

Yeah, that's the limit. I had to do some major cutting down, but it's all about the essays anyway.

Definitely a wonderful time of the year to try to fill out something so extensive. I'm totally wishing I had been like half of the other posters that started thinking about essays way back before the application was even out. I think I would have felt bad if I did, though.

One done so far; just about the seminars. It's a totally rant, if I'm honest. Not a word for the others yet, and have about 40 projects for classes due on the 25th.

It would be so much easier to just begin digging my grave right now.

I have a lot of summer program choices this year...so guess what...I freaking give up. TASP is a crapshoot anyway(5% acceptance? come on); doubly so since I'm an international. And it isn't even well-known so the applicant pool is definitely self-selective. I'm halfway through my critical analysis(the first essay) and I feel I'm just writing a load of pretentious BS. I still have NO idea what to write for the conflict one. I do feel like I'd be good at the future and intellectual interest ones, but as it stands I just don't feel TASP is worth applying to at this time. I have semester finals, and I'd rather not take a chunk out of my grades to spend time on something that is extremely unlikely to yield results. All the seminars this year suck anyway. The only one remotely of interest to me is the democracy and diversity one, and that's pushing it a bit. So even if I applied, it wouldn't be because the seminars interest me, but just to put TASP on my CV - so I really shouldn't be applying anyway.

/end rant

kudos to the people who were not complete dumbasses(i.e. me), and started the essays earlier. Good luck to everyone. Sorry for the rant, I just felt the need to vent and provide a rationale as to why I gave up - perhaps I was just trying to justify it to deaf ears in order to make myself feel better.

I just finished my essays! I am so excited I am posting. I started them on Monday and writing them and doing schoolwork has been death.

So yes, the stress is terrible and I should have planned ahead but writing the essays has really been a good experience. Regardless of whether I get accepted or not, I've had a lot of fun learning about myself.

Now off to watch an episode of Parks & Rec as a reward before getting started on studying for the SAT!

this is like an hour late, but I just realized emmx15 and I posted simultaneously. craaaa-zzzzy!!

anyways, this must THE shortest thread ever. Last year's thread was on its 30th page on Jan 23, 2011. I guess everyone really is taking the no pre-TASP communication more seriously...
