| Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics?
Hello I was wondering if anyone here is applying or has attended the Summer Ventures Program in Science and Mathematics (SVSM) in North Carolina?
Does anyone have any helpful tips on how someone could stand out for the committee?
You can also put your stats on here because I feel that is a necessity to see how others stack up for the program. Thanks for reading!

I did the program many years ago at Western Carolina. It was awesome! You get to spend a month studying a specific subject and work on a research project that's of interest to you. I turned it into my senior exit project, and I think it helped me with college admissions. For fun, there's field trips on the weekend to go caving, hiking, canoeing, etc. (This depends on which campus you're on. Obviously it's easier to do these things at App than UNCC.) It's definitely a "nerd camp," and for someone like me who wasn't used to being surrounded by people like that, it was absolutely amazing.
I was also admitted to Governor's School and chose SVSM. Didn't regret it.
As for selectivity, I doubt my stats would help you any. I get the impression it's not as selective as Governor's School, though. There were many rising sophomores and juniors at SVSM. My advice is to emphasize your science coursework and why you want to attend.

Wow awesome, now it is very hard to get in because they are only accepting 250 this year. Can I show you my stats to see your feedback on my chances of being accepted?

Excessive bumping is disruptive and fruitless. You should utilize the PM feature to get warblersrule's attention.

One of our kids applied to Ventures. We've heard nothing but good things about it. Do you know then the decisions come out regarding acceptances?

I attended last summer at UNCC. It was super fun and a great experience! It's definitely rising junior heavy, just so you know. It's definitely nerd camp as warblersrule said, and you will spend A LOT of time on your paper if you end up going. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me!

Results are availbale on the website. Go to Status via the application link. Rather than under review, it will now tell you the (hopefully) good news!
