| BU RISE - Research Internship in Science and Engineering
Since I haven't seen very many threads on this, I thought I'd post one about Boston University's Research Internship in Science and Engineering program (RISE).
This is a 6 week residential science research program, similar to HSHSP or RSI I suppose, just not as prestigious. I was wondering if anyone on College Confidential knows anything about it or went to it?
In particular, I was interested in the research quality, and in the amount of time/help you get in creating your formal research report and poster. Has anyone entered in their research into Intel/Siemens type competition?
I just got accepted into RISE, but they want all the forms completed and turned in by 3 weeks. Would you accept the offer or decline, waiting for other programs? (I applied to RSI, Clark, Simons, Garcia, some local things, SSP, will do HSHSP, etc. Stats are decent, but I'm an Asian qq.)

From the website: "Joshua Kubiak was named a finalist in the 2011 Siemen's Competition in Math, Science & Technology."
You were accepted but you didn't turn in all of your forms? (Wait, I'm not sure if you're talking about your transcript and stuff, or the forms to live on campus...)

Haha, I meant campus living forms, medical forms, all the post-acceptance stuff. I guess I should try to be more clear next time :P.
And I saw the Kubiak Siemens thing, but I just don't want to be too hasty and equate one person's success with the general quality of the program. Thanks, though !

I'm applying right now so could you share your stats so I know what it takes to be accepted? It seems like a really great opportunity!

You can find my stats if you check up the threads I've started :P. It should be under "chances for Williams/Amherst" (shameless chance thread...>_<.). Those are pretty much the stats I submitted to BU, even though they're a little outdated now.

kikuhana, you have really good stats! (:
On a sort-of-unrelated note, I saw that you went to YSP at UC Davis last year. How was that experience for you?

@archaic: Haha, thanks, though if you compared them to the other students in my geographical area, I'm sure they wouldn't look very good anymore XD.
And I absolutely LOVED YSP at UCD. If you want to know more in depth about the program, feel free to PM me :P.

Hi kikuhana,
so did you end up attending the program? would you mind sharing a bit about your experience there?
I'm mostly concerned about the research quality there, and also about the selectiveness of the program. I've heard rumors that if one has the money he could easily get in - do you know approximately how many applied/got in last year?
Thanks so much!

I called them and asked. They said 'last year we were able to offer 65 spots. We had 400 applicants.' If anyone either attended or was turned down, I would love to hear.
Thanks,
PS

My S attended RISE last year. He got to do independent research in biochemistry for six weeks and they get to do poster presentation at the end of the project. It helped him with generous merit scholarships at top public state schools and I think the experience was worth it.

Do you think it'll matter if I sent in my recommendations before I sent in my application? :/ I'm finishing my application and sending in my PSAT scores and transcript today, but my teachers mailed in my recommendations last week.

No, they start reviewing your application once it's complete. You should get a confirmation email too, later! (:
