| My personal evaluation of summer programs/app process
In this forum, i see a lot of programs i applied to last year, so i thought that i would share my experiences. I'm pretty average applicant, from missouri, definately NOT exceptional, but here are my thoughts.
i applied to like a bazillion progarms.....
Cornell nanobiotech-Rejected(whole thing was kinda shady...i have yet to speak to one person who has done this program
LEAD-rejected(shady too, didn't hear back for teh longest time, plus i had a friend apply who never heard back, but upon calling them, she 'magically' got a spot....kinda desperate huh)
RSI-rejected(bad stats...i don't question this rejection...lol)
TASP-rejected(crap essays...i accept my rejection)
Michigan HSHSP(SHADY) -accepted-never heard back, emailed them and 'magically' got a spot. too much $ req. so didn't go.
SSP-accepted-too much $, didnt go
Mizzou's minimedical camp-accepted, didn't go, too much $
STARS-two summers ago-accepted-good experience
Grinnell honors minority camp(i'm asian)- rejected
NIH internship-rejected(i heard only kids w/ connections get accepted)
BIGGEST REGRET:
monsanto scholars-heard about it too late, never had a chance to apply
so what did i do? i did three free summer camps, only for missouri students though. PM me if you want more info
So yeah, i basically felt like i was applying to college last summer. haha. it's good prep for the actual college app process though. there may be more programs, i just can't remember. Good luck!
