Anyone else notice that in the pdf program announcement (
http://education.msu.edu/hshsp/pdf/H...12-ProgAnn.pdf ) they gave the required materials list twice?
It's given on page two, then again on pages 6 and 7. I wouldn't have thought much of it if it was just a repeat, but its clear somebody typed it up twice: the items are listed in a different order and uses fairly different wording (although it tells you to do the same thing).
For example, the first essay prompt from page two:
"A 300-600 word, applicant-written essay describing the nature and origin of your interests in science and in research, what you hope to learn by participating in the program, and what you feel you can contribute should you be selected as a participant."
Versus the one from the bottom:
"A personal essay of 300-600 words. The essay must be neat and should address your interests in scientific research and in attending the HSHSP; what do you think you can contribute and any other significant related events in your life that you feel would be helpful to the Director in evaluating your application. I do not want to receive an essay that details your lifetime awards and honors, but rather an honest and compelling story about why you want to spend 7 weeks of your summer away from family and friends, doing full-time research, and why your participation would make difference in your life."
Like I said: the same thing, though I feel like the one from the bottom gives me a better idea of what exactly it is that they're looking for.
(only difference in content I've noticed is that the bottom list specifies that they want your class ranking while the top doesn't, and that the top one requests letter from two math or science teachers, while the bottom asks for one science teacher and specifies no subject for the second teacher)
Little bit too late to matter, but I found it interesting.
