dplane: yea I got in too!!! congrats!
man, this is going to be an awesome experience.

RakG: this program is really prestigious if that's what you want to know. there are other summer camps with high prestige as well, but this program is also among the top. and on that note, it says on the website that your admission into the camp has no influence on your decision to be able to attend yale college. if you read the previous posts on this thread, there are ex-ivy scholars who told me stories of their friends who went to this camp, and yet were denied admission into yale. but regardless, i think this program is going to be an awesome experience.

as for selectivity, the ex-ivy scholars told me it's around 20% acceptance rate, so you can say it is very selective. i think they look at your essay and your teacher recommendations the most. i wish you best luck.

Congrats on getting in!!!
Thanks for ur help juhztin

I am not a great debater, but the whole program, especially the grand strategy part really interests me. How important is debating as a component of the program? Is it just a minor thing in the program? I do enjoy arguing, its just that i haven't done any proper formal debating before. Will i be missing out on the whole program experience because of this?

im thinking of applying to this program, looks very good. i know this question was asked before, but for the prompt in the application, did you guys write one long essay, or have sort of mini essays/sections? also, are the two to three pages double spaced or single?

Also, RakG, I'm going and I don't participate in debate, I THINK it used to be a debate program but it's not anymore. That being said, I think the program is looking for some background in persuasion/public speaking, whether that be debate, mock trial, MUN (clearly the best one), or speech team, or something similar.

supaflyz: yea, i did mine in one essay format. 1.5 spaced.

RakG: no problem. as others mentioned, i don't think your previous experiences in debate have too much impact on your decision or your time there. i heard it used to be debate/grand strategy but now the program puts more emphasis on grand strategy. i think as long as you show them that you are willing to learn and work to your full potential, then your previous records will not matter as much. good luck!

epigramimpelled - congratulations!

Hey guys. I got into the Ivy Scholars Program as well, and am wondering if anyone would be interested in starting a facebook group for people who were accepted. I think it would be cool if we could get to know each other a little bit before the summer.

Note: there is a general Ivy Scholars group already, but I mean making one for 2009.
