anyone know if they'll be extensively covering the reading that we did, or are they just for background info./reference?
Seriously hope it's the latter...

I have it on good authority that: Last year they did not extensively cover the reading in GS. Polos are a good choice as are nice shorts sometimes, but for some things you will want pants. Unless you are a true insomniac you won't have time to do any of the pre-reading once the program starts, so get it done beforehand.

From what I hear from DD who is there now, it's all pretty intense. Kids are up late doing the reading and writing assignments, even though lots of reading was done ahead of time.
Not sure it accurately reflects a typical ivy college course. Sounds a lot more intense.

To those wondering about admit rate, the director at APPLE this year stated that around 400 to 450 people applied. There are a 137 students enrolled in the program.

For the people who were deferred last year... should they contact the people to confirm their spot?

yeah; it's all about philosophy, history, political science, etc... I'm thinking of applying for the summer of 2013, but what im somewhat worried about is this: I'm interested in economics and social science and based on what it says on the brochure, it seems like an interesting program. I like the fact that I'll be learning how to write a college level research paper and that I'll be able to participate in discussions with people interested in things I'm interested in, but what I'm worried about is, will there be a lot of debating ? I love participating in small group discussions, but I am really bad at debating or public speaking... will I be able to improve my debating skills by attending this program? or is this program not good for someone who's not really a debater? I love everything about this program, except the fact that I might be debating and making speeches... can anyone who has done this program tell me more about whether this program is very much public-speaking / debate-oriented? thanks in advance

For alumni of the program, what was the focus of your answer/topics you discussed (i.e. was the essay very personal or more generic)? I'm not sure how to approach this essay so any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks so much!
