ok, thanks, that is true...
I was just wondering because MIT itself tends to be relatively more math-oriented.

lawl someone put the tag "messiah sucks" on this
I wouldn't say you're hopelessly screwed, but it sure doesn't help you any. If you really are so passionate about science, why aren't you taking any science courses this year? Unless you plan on applying for math.

Sorry to invade, butif you're interested in RSI, you mayalso be interested in the Clark Scholars Program, another research program in Texas that's less of a crapshoot to get into.

So basically if you're an Asian male from California don't bother applying. (You'll be doing yourself a favor, considering that there are Asian male IMO and IPhO medalists from CA)

For RSI, Does having previous research experience, such as in a college physics lab and taking trips to use Oak Ridge's Neutron Scatter for you research, help?

Another "Chance Me" Question
Junior
Asian, Female
I have straight A's. I am in the International Baccalaureate Program in school, and will most probably acquire the IB Diploma. I am number two in a class of about 450 (and is planning on reclaiming number one). I have straight one hundreds in my math and science classes. Actually, I haven't had a grade lower than one hundred in any of my classes.
I have won international awards in writing (chinese) and art. I have over 400 service hours and maybe even more by the time I am done with high school. I participates in all kinds of activities in school. I am in Fed Challenge, Knowledge Bowl, Mu Alpha Theta, German Club, Engineering Club, Varsity Band, and Chinese Culture Society.
I am the founder and president of the Chinese Culture Society. Captain of Fed Challenge Team. I also have many other leadership positions in other places. I am accepted in the TN governor school of science as a sophomore. I studied modern physics there and passed with the highest grade in the class.
I take Taekwondo and plays Piano and Flute. I have been playing piano since 6 and will have a black belt in Taekwondo by I graduate.
I have a very interesting schooling history. I alternated between China and America until Middle School.
I have been preparing for the PSAT. As a sophomore, I got a 193 on the PSAT. This year I am aiming for at least a 213 to get into semi-finalist. I have done many, many practice tests, and my score changes from 228 to 210. It is mostly around 212-217. I am worried if I will get into the semi-finalist or not.
Classes: IB Physics Hl, IB Math SL
Fresh and Soph year: Chem, Bio, ALgebra II, Geometry

Who exactly are these people who get into RSI? Are they mythological creatures? Do they walk around with an aura around their brains? Are they shape shifters taking human form only upon arriving at MIT?
I heard the they only take something like 50 out of thousands of juniors. People with perfect grades, perfect test scores, tons of ec's, don't make it. Crazy!!
Anyways, has anyone actually ever met, or even seen, one of these Gods of science? If so, share what makes them stand out among the masses.
And how does one get in?!!!!!!!!!

Mom of an RSI kid here (you've only drawn me out by implying I'm a goddess). DS was always interested in science, and especially technology, since he was a toddler. Always wanted to know how things worked, who invented it, etc. He was the kind of kid that as a five year old would get a tour of the cabinet making factory floor because he asked so many pesky questions of the salesman when we were remodeling the kitchen, and would have the cable guy explaining wiring and electronics to him.
Most of the kids he met at RSI shared this kind of insatiable curiosity (and not just about science). He met a lot of kids there that had taught themselves A LOT of stuff (as did DS). The thing that made it so intensely fun to be there was all these really curious people all thrown together.
That said there are probably 5 or 10 kids you could have predicted would get in, and the rest were just, well, lucky (like DS). Because, honestly, there are a lot of smart, curious kids out there...
