Yes. I added some more programs and took out some that weren't really that prestigious and were quite costly.

My daughter (then 11th grade) went on an Academic Treks, 3 week, trip in Costa Rica studying sea turtles. She LOVED it, a small group (<15 kids), it was in her field of interest and may have helped her decide what to major in, she got "college credit" (she had to study and write papers and exams), and it gave her something to write about in her college app. AT has other courses, including language immersion, marine biology. They also have Broadreach which is more like a vacation (scuba, sailing, zip-lining):

Summer Study Abroad Programs for College Students | Academic Treks College

Broadreach teen summer camps. Scuba camps, Caribbean sailing camps, marine biology, teen travel, wilderness summer programs

I am only a satisfied parent/customer -- I have no financial interest in the companies.

Are there any good non-expensive (free ones are best) summer study abroad/volunteer programs? Thanks.

Finland US Senate Youth Exchange. It is exchange, not true study abroad, but they do some political things like visit embassies and Parliament, and meet the ambassadors in DC and Helsinki. Total cost to my D was probably around $1,000, scholarship covered an estimated $5,000 in expenses. The year she went about a dozen students got these scholarships and went on this program.
