Susan, I was just coming to post that! I talked to a friend today who lives in Vermont and they got six inches where she is. Very unusual but these things DO happen and are more likely in a snowbelt area, especially early in the season when lake effect snowstorms are common. I hope you had your boots handy.

Looks like I had good timing weatherwise with my trip to NYC last week. It's back to rain this week.

Funny your comments about the boots. My daughter who goes to NYU flew home this weekend. Before she came, I told her the weather was changing and it was cooler so to bring home a fall jacket. She got off the plane Friday night and had on a down jacket and winter boots and I commented how silly that seemed as it was only Oct. and not necessary to wear a winter jacket and Ugg type boots as nobody is yet in those. We have fall foliage still on the trees. Well, I had to eat crow this morning when we woke up to a winter wonderland and she, uh, had the right stuff. Who knew???

PS....with all the rain lately, we also lucked out in NYC a week ago when we were there for Parent Weekend as the weather was pretty nice.

Yeah, I live near Syracuse and this morning on the news the forecast for the week consisted of snow today in higher elevations, and wet snow for the rest of the week. Maybe the nov 11 audition will be a slippery ride after all...(darn!)

It is snowing here in Syracuse tonight! Yuck! Not unheard of to have snow here in October, yet I'm not mentally prepared for this right now!

We woke up today to six new inches of snow. (had three a few days ago) The trees are laden and fallen over and breaking as they are full of fall foliage. It is a winter wonderland. So, um, whomever is discounting snow in the north country in November, think again. It is October.

Heh- I wasn't discounting snow, just hoping there wouldn't be any within the next 3 weeks... but considering I had wet snow where I live this morning, and other places got it, apparently not!

cindy, I don't think Susan's comment was directed at you but more likely at mtdog's previous comment regarding the concern about snow in November being "complete nonsense". The past few days have proven that it is far from complete nonsense, as Pittsburgh, the other city you were asking about, also got several inches of snow. Perhaps mother nature is getting it out of the way early so that you'll have good weather for your audition weekend.

Thank you AlwaysAMom, that is exactly what I meant. Cindy I would not worry too much about this. It is a chance for everyone. All of my daughter's auditions were in winter and many involved long drives and many involved flights, plus I live in Vermont. We lucked out and did well weather wise at 8 auditions. Some are not as lucky but one reason I am hesitant to do unifieds is that with so much riding on one day and if you have travel problems due to weather, it can be a problem.

For you, you just have to go with the plans and know that risks are involved but usually it works out and just not worry too much (though all us moms do!).

Edit...oops, Cindy, I forgot you are a student but everyone worries, I should say, not just moms. My D did Syracuse and Ithaca in January and I worried about travel but it all went well on our drives there but I realize it could have been a snowstorm.

You don't want to come to Buffalo. UB is a commuter school, You will have no social life. Our winters are god awfull. Lake effect snow shuts down the whoel city a few times every winter. There is never any sunshine. The taxes are to high.

I am the counting the days untill I can get out of the Buffalo region

I have to disagree with Bill_h_pike about going to school in Buffalo. I'm a BFA sophomore Musical Theater major here and I'm originally from Long Island. I love it here in Buffalo, and Buffalo is NOT solely a commuter school. Not at all. It has about 27,000 students here, so of course there are going to be a lot of commuters from the surrounding Buffalo area. But the majority or at least 1/2 of the incoming undergrads live on-Campus. And have you seen the size of the two undergrad. housing areas (Ellicott on North Campus and Goodyear on South Campus)??? There are so many people here from all over New York state. But in order to meet people you either are lucky by just meeting people in the dorms and through other friends, or getting involved in activities. There are SO many clubs, sororities, fraternities and huge functions that on ere you can meet people.
Now, about the weather...yes, it snows A LOT here. So, if you don't like the cold or the snow, don't come. But it's not that bad. It's a lot harder if your living off-campus though. Living on-campus is ideal because there is constant transportation to and from campus, so you never have to worry about not having a car or walking. They even have on-campus apartments which are just as close, if not closer to the campus buildings than the dorms. But the catch with the campus apartment is the cost. They cost a lot more than living somewhere off campus, but there are pros and cons to both. The weather here in the summer and spring is absolutely beautiful in my opinion, and yes it can be extremely cloudy throughout the winter. But, thats winter for the most part, and you should be too busy and have enough other good things going on to not let that get to you so much.
Anyway, it all comes down to one's own experience and taste. I have had a wonderful time here, and I know others that have and others that haven't. Just come visit during the winter to get a feel for the place and how it operates and visit and talk to as many students (especially in your intended major) that you can. And we are around, and ALL the time. You just need to find us and dig for some info.

You have posted on a board devoted to college musical theatre programs. I doubt anyone here knows much about SUNY Buffalo's electrical engineering program. Try posting your question under the general college search and selection heading or lookfor a thread devoted to engineering.
