Transfer looking at New Paltz or Purchase

I'm currently a freshman at Binghamton, and I'm looking to transfer to either SUNY New Paltz or SUNY Purchase next year. I know that Binghamton has a far superior academic reputation in comparison to the others, but I'm hoping to major in communications/media which Binghamton does not have.
I'm from western New York near Buffalo, though I've been to New York City quite a bit and am hopefully planning to live and work there after college, so ideally I want to go somewhere that's at most 3 hours from the city.

I read that there's no on campus housing available for transfers at New Paltz which was a little unsettling, because I'm not sure if I'm ready to live in an apartment and be that independent yet.

What's campus life like at New Paltz and Purchase? They both seem to be kind of "artsy" places, which I think fits with me better than Binghamton.

My mom and I are going to visit New Paltz next weekend, though I think the whole lack of on campus housing might be a deal breaker for us.

Any information that anyone could give me on either of these places would be great, thanks very much!

Purchase FTW

I'm a current undergrad student at SUNY Purchase, and I absolutely love it here. We usually have on-campus housing for all of our transfer students, and they are typically in apartment-style living situations (if you're looking for something more independent than a res hall). Our campus is only 35 miles away from NYC, and several of the students here frequently go. In fact, there are plenty of job opportunities and internship connections for Purchase students in NYC because of our close proximity. These are just a few details about our college, but if you'd like to know more you can visit our campus by visiting Purchase College, State University of New York - Think Wide Open and clicking on "Visit Purchase" under the Admissions tab.

You can also contact me if you have any additional questions!
