ED Advice?

Did anybody here apply ED to Swarthmore? If so any advice or things you wish you had known when you were applying?

Financial aid. Don't be afraid of applying if you need financial aid like me. They're supposed to give really generous need-based aid, and they say their offers are the same whether you're ED or RD.

However, if you're thinking about applying ED for financial aid, ask the financial aid office to give you a preliminary estimate before you apply. That way you'll have an idea of what they'll offer you before you commit.

Also, try to take a challenging senior course load. Really work on your why Swat essay, and try to throw in specific things about the campus If you've visited.

It helps to spend the night (once school starts in the fall). That way, you can be more confident with your decision, and it is easier to include really specific details in your why Swat essay. I applied ED last fall, and I visited the campus twice before writing my first draft of the essay. Then, after spending the night, I decided to completely rewrite it!

I also suggest that you meet with professors if you are interested in a specific field. Then you can talk about your meetings in your essay and interview (if it seems relevant).

Good luck!

I applied ED with high (albeit middle-class) financial need and received a package that exceeded my family's expectations. If you have an uncomplicated financial situation--stable W2 salaries, one home, no significant investments or non-retirement savings, no stepparents or non-custodial issues, etc.--and Swat is your first choice, PLEASE don't hesitate to apply ED. If the package is unworkable, you do have a last-resort out, although you can't compare packages with other schools (which doesn't matter if you can't afford it, period).

I'm pretty sure I got in on the quality of my essays, which need to reflect swat. no generic bs for this one.
