| As you may have guessed, my D ended up at Syracuse, and is totally thrilled with the program. She did have 3 years of a language, so that was never an issue for us. I would suggest you call the theater department -- they are very helpful and can probably give you the answer to that question. Glad to help out -- you can PM me if you have any other questions.

| My son got into Syracuse, but he probably met that language requirement. He was thrilled to get into Syracuse, but he is currently a very happy MT student at Elon University. These 2 programs have much in common, in my opinion. We were very impressed with the Syracuse students who worked in summerstock with my son this summer. |

| I am in the same boat as you. I took French I & II in 8th and 9th grade, but then I transferred schools and they didn't offer French. Rather than start I new language, I decided not to take one since I'm not a fan of foreign languages to begin with. I actually emailed Syracuse admissions about this, and they said they'd look at it in context of your school, and that there were always exceptions. So lacking in foreign language certainly won't help you, but I feel that in terms of kids applying for MT it won't make or break you. |

| In our school system, you can't graduate with less than 3 foreign language courses of the same language, or 2 in one and 2 in another. But it's okay, because I did 5 years of German
Best advice: email or call them. If it is an admission REQUIREMENT, then it might be problematic for the university, but only THEY could tell you that
Good luck! |

| This is what the college replied ..... Syracuse University requires 4 years each of English, math, science, and social studies and 3 years of foreign language. The Prospectus outlines typical requirements of a college preparatory program. However, we understand that some students attend high schools that do not require this number of courses since high school requirements vary by schools and states. If you have not completed all of these requirements, the Admissions Committee will consider this as an exception to our standard requirement and make a judgment based on the requirements of the secondary school, strength of curriculum, and performance in those classes. If you only have two years of a foreign language, you may still be considered for admission into the drama program. |

| From the little you shared, your D is above average for the stats of those accepted to Syracuse University. Her academics should not be a significant problem there and the school is an "easier match" for her. |

| megnut, I agree with soozievt as far as the grades go for admission ,however although she may meet the grade criteria all schools are looking for different combinations of students to fill their student bodies. As we all know here so many things can happen...my D was accepted as an OOS to UNC Chapel Hill (much harder to get into academically than Syracuse) was turned down by Syracuse and then accepted into the Mt program. She then received a welcome to Syracuse letter in May. By that time she had made her choice and was set on her decision. She did have a friend who was notified in May( came off the wait list) and did accept their offer. Her friend withdrew from the school she had initially made her committment to...so anything can happen! |

| Still looking for a REAL safety Its sooo hard to tell where you may or may not get in..even with decent grades. I know from last year with my son you really can't count on any school with all the competition out there! It seems in MT you have to wait longer for schools such as Penn State, since the auditions go through the winter. |

| My D is auditioning at Syracuse on January 19th and Ithaca on the 20th (& University of Miami on the 18th!). I'm a bit nervous about the weather but appreciate the advice from Onstage about the AWD or 4-wheel drive car rental. Any advice for hotels in either city? |

| Regarding hotels in Syracuse, there's a Sheraton right across from campus. Actually, it feels like it's a part of the campus. I have stayed there and it's fine. The STudent AFfairs office there has a long list of hotels as well. While I'm on this site because my son is applying to theatre schools(not Syracuse because his sister goes there and he wants his own school), my daughter is a sophomore history major at SU. Loves the school! Was a B student in high school--we call it the A+ school for B students. The snow was minimal last year, the easiest winter in years. Let's see how this year works out. Good luck to all! |

| My son and I toured Syracuse last April. I was able to get a hotel room on Priceline for $70. My son will be presenting his portfolio on 12/3. He is applying for Stage Management. We we able to get the same hotel for the same price on Priceline. It's the Renaissance Syracuse Downtown. It's right on East Genesee Street. About 3 blocks away from the theatre department. |

| audition day in october Sarahlsmom... we attended a full open house in October when it was 75 degrees! It was beautiful up there. We attended a full open house. There was a meeting for the college and then it was broken down into departments with different guides taking different groups. Very organized. The adults were given nice informative tours by students of the facilities as well as an overview by faculty with question and answers. In the meantime the kids went to their auditions. They danced first, then sang and did their monologue in another room. Make sure you're student is dressed to dance right away because its hard to change once things get underway. Good Luck! |
