UT-Austin vs. Texas State

I'm currently debating between paying a substantial amount for UT, or going to Texas State for virtually nothing. I'm an advertising major, and TSU has a recognized advertising program, but it lacks the name recognition of UT. I'm a little afraid of going to an "easy" school and risking wasting my talent and test scores, but eventually I'm going to an advertising grad. school, so undergrad isn't that important. Is UT worth the added cost?

Try to ask someone actually working in advertising. I'm sure there are professional organizations that would put you in contact with someone.

Based upon the information you provided, TSU should be the school for you. Cost less; recognized program. Other than San Marcos vs Austin, what is your question? Besides San Marcos is close to Austin. Save your money now, use it for grad school. That is when it will make a difference.

As you can see from my user name, I'm a UT grad, but I echo the others - go to TSU!

Picking a College

Hello,

I'm getting a head start on all my school searches and have come to two different schools but can't find anything saying that one music school is better that the other. I have been looking at UT's Butler School of Music and really like what is said about it and what it has to offer. I'd like to get some kind of degree in Piano performance. Specifically the piano. I want to really take it as far as I can and make something out of it. Their instructors clearly have the credentials to teach and they have also graduated many students who have gone on and become world known concert musicians. The other school is Texas State at San Marcos School of Music. I really haven't been able to find a lot about this school other than the general information that they try to sell you one. Does anybody have any thoughts? Everything is pointing towards UT that it is a better School and choice. Please respond with any comments about these schools and how they compare musically. I have seen their academics and where they size up nationally and UT has a whole bunch to offer with a lot of their degrees ranking in the top 10 in the nation.
