A&M decision

My daughter got this today:

Participation in Texas A&M's Program for System Admission (PSA). Upon admission to one of the TAMU System institutions, Texas A&M will guarantee admission to students who successfully complete their first year of college at one of the seven participating Texas A&M University System schools and satisfy all PSA requirements. The program is limited to specific majors and requires that applicants complete at least 24 transferable hours with a minimum 3.0 GPR in courses noted in the program specific degree plans. For more information about PSA visit Program for System Admission (PSA). To be considered for participation in PSA, submit your request (via this system — applicant.tamu.edu) by May 1, 2012.

We are confused with many people she knows getting Blinn but lower grades, rank, and sat score. Is this a good option or a rejection? Help some parents out here! Thanks

She was top 19% in class of 869, 4.42 Gpa, FFA, hosa, national honors society, club president, sat composite was 1070

It means she would have to attend one of the 8 schools listed, do well in the prescribed courses and major in one of the listed majors. If she does that, then she gets automatic admission to Texas A&M - College Station in one year. If she wants to major in something not listed, then admission is not automatic, but she must apply as a transfer student. Whether it is a good option or not depends on her other choices and the desire to attend TAMU at College Station and the other school for the first year.

We have a friend that is doing PSA this year at Galveston. She will transfer to College Station in the fall. She has enjoyed it actually, but looks forward to transfering. She has gone to some games in College Station and visits friends there on weekends. Really not a bad option at all.
