your employer will not care about rankings, only experience. it doesnt matter what college you go to, its what you do in college

In the world of college rankings, that's a big difference. Also, depending on specialty UT is the way to go. Their accounting MBA is #1 in the nation and has been for 3 years. In reality, Mays class sizes aren't that much smaller. We use "breakout" sessions to flub the numbers and lower our class sizes.
You may think it's a "big difference", but that's not the difference between a Tier 1 and Tier 2, 3, etc. school as you explicitly said. And yes, Mays undergrad class sizes are decently smaller than UT's.

i'll agree...a 3.5 at TAMU is more impressive than a 3.0 at UT...

but a 3.0 at TAMU = 3.0 at UT

I know a lot of people argue that there is very little difference in the two business schools. Then I still wonder why is there so much of a difference between business school rankings?
Is it because of value of education, connections or ...?

yes...business school rankings are flawed and are actually based on the research caliber. there is very little student input and it's mostly peer (faculty) review.

for something like business...which is touted as the easiest major (excluding accounting) what really matters is GPA. so go where you think you will succeed. dont go to UT just b/c you want a higher ranked education.

it's like this...just because students are pre-med at cornell it doesnt mean that they will get into med school versus students from lesser ranked institutions.

if you are interested in MBA what will matter is work experience + GMAT. if you're going for a JD(law) then what matters is GPA + LSAT! a student at UT doesnt have a distinct advantage over someone from TAMU unless their GPA/scores differ! and you study for these grad school tests...you just dont do well by going to a better school.

i'd follow the money (if any) at this point.
