Spring 2010 Transfers

Anyone else applying for the Spring 2010 semester?
I'll be applying to BME.

Who else?

I've applied for Mechanical Engineering for Spring 2010. Have a GPA of ~3.7 but haven't completed all the CBK courses. All my transcripts arrived at the end of August, been sitting on step 3 for a month now.... ugh....

Good luck again Orsche! I'm sure you'll get in this time around.

Aggiewannabe, have you completed physics mechanics or calculus 2 yet? If not, you're going to have to wait a bit longer (around december). The reason is because they prefer applicants to have most of their CBK finished prior to applying. I applied last spring for the Fall '09 semester, and was initially denied because I did not have physics mechanics or calculus 2 completed by the application deadline. I was however, able to submit my spring transcript (with physics and calculus 2 completed) for reconsideraton and was admitted.

Unfortunantly, A&M took until early July to accept me, I was accepted to UT in early June and chose to attend UT due to the uncertainty that I had in A&M's admission process (its based on space avail, and I thought there might not have been any space left since it was way late in the process). Your GPA is about what I had when I applied (3.75). If you have good grades in the maths and sciences, I am sure you're going to get in. Get ready for a long wait. Search the forum back to May and you will find that many of us didn't hear for 3 months if not longer. Good luck.

Unfortunately I only have Calculus I done. I guess that means I will be waiting for awhile then... December is along ways away.

Oddly enough I checked AIS today and noticed that my first choice major has been changed from Mechanical Engineering to General Engineering? A precursor of things to come? Maybe they are positioning me in General engineering initially until I complete more of the CBK coursework, after which I can switch my major to a more specific field? I should probably contact admissions and ask them if this is a mistake or what it means for my application.

ampzor, thanks! I'm sorry to hear that A&M took so long

aggiewannabe, I have no idea. Let us know what the admissions office says.

I'm hoping to have all of my items submitted this upcoming week!

I am also applying as a Mechanical Engineering student and just like you they switched me to general engineering. I am taking calc 2 and physics now and when I talked to admissions they told me to get my calc and phys teachers to email them my current grade and that they will take those for current consideration. The person I spoke with was the admission counselor for mechanical engineering.

Never heard of that LiveStrongly. As I and many others had learned last admissions cycle, you take what the admissions advisors say with a grain of salt. You will often find that each of the advisors statements contradict one another. I was just speaking out of my experience with the engineering admissions. It seems a little odd that they would use a grade given by email for admissions purposes.

Here is the correspondence from me and the OAR regarding the unsolicited change of majors in AIS. Apparently it just means that the application is being reviewed by another department in addition to ME and the application major will switch back and forth as the application is reviewed by different departments.

Question:

"Office of Admissions and Records,

I checked my AIS information page today and noticed that my first choice major has been switched from mechanical engineering to general engineering. Since I hadn't requested that my major be switched, I was wondering if my major was changed in error or whether it was done intentionally. If it was done intentionally, should I take this to mean that there was not enough room for me to transfer into mechanical engineering and that if accepted I would be placed into general engineering to continue my studies with the option of being reconsidered for mechanical engineering in the future once additional coursework has been completed?

Maybe I am reading too much into this, but I just want to stay on top of what is going on with my application.

Thank you for your time and consideration."

Response:

"It is very common for the majors to flip back and forth during the review process. You are correct in your assumption, though, that if there is no room in mechanical engineering, you might be switched to general engineering. If that happens, you would have the option to switch over to mechanical engineering later on. Right now, all the change means is that your application is under review and is being considered by both departments."
