No Class Rank- Do I need recommendations now?

Since my high school doesn't rank us, I'm getting the impressions that I would only be admitted if I went through the Review Admit process. I have an ACT score of 33 (English 35, Reading 35, Math 32, and Science 29), and I have been taking rigorous courses. Students with my scores, but attending schools that rank their students would automatically be admitted as an Academic Admit, assuming my 3.8 GPA would put me in the top quarter. So just because of this difference do I need to ask for letters of recommendation now?

Let's put it this way. Recommendations help but if you have a 3.8 GPA UW, 33 on ACT and are taking rigorous courses I wouldn't worry. Unless you are applying for business or engineering I would say you should get in no problem. But engineering and business are might be difficult to get into since the academic pool keeps getting more competitive.

I see I should have specificed what I want to major in. I am thinking about engineering, at least that's what I'm stating everywhere I'm applying, and that's how I'm deciding where to apply. In that case I will ask for some recommendations right away. Thank you.

You're in for engineering. Your ACT math score is great, which should be all that you need to get into engineering.

Thank you. In that case, I won't waste their time.
