What are my chances of getting into A&M?

1620 SAT
530 Reading
570 Math
520 Writing

Top 25%

-3.43 GPA so my GPA is 94.1
-AP and Pre-Ap Classes
-2 years of choir
-1 year of underclassmen leading

No ACT scores yet...

You guys probably know about this stuff more than I do, what are my chances of making it into A&M? And I come from a "good" high school, my friend says they put this into consideration, but I haven't heard of that before. Will I make it in?

Your chances aren't really that good. Raise your test scores up a little.Apply early and hope for the best.

All I can say is try to raise your reading to 600 and Math to 650+, it might sound hard but if you want to get into A&M Automatic Admission is the secure option. In my first SAT I did bad and was like 100 points off from automatic admission, but in my second testing ended up 120 points over. Take it again, and hope for the best.

Maybe your ACT scores will be higher, as many people do better on it. With your current SAT scores, and other HS credentials, you might get an offer for Blinn Team, but full admission to TAMU is doubtful. Have you done any of the activities associated with the university, like visiting a Prospective Student Center, or Aggieland Saturday, etc? Those things are somewhat helpful. If you really want to attend TAMU, do everything you can listed on their admissions page for prospective students, retake your SAT, work hard on your essays and submit as early as possible. They do take into consideration what type of school you come from. If it's one they recognize as highly competitive, that could definitely bump you up over someone else with equal stats. But test scores are the most important. Good luck to you.

they do take into consideration a recognized highly competitive High School,
but your SAT scores do not reflect that. Your scores probably hurt you if you are seriously at a recognized highly competitive hs.... they would expect you to gleen at least a little better scores just from being there kwim?
I would take the ACT - and SAT again. Go to prospective student admissions center and talk to an advisor there.

klparker hit the nail on the head. A highly competitive high school would reflect negatively on your GPA or class rank but not so much on your test scores.

We were told at our school that since we are the top high school in central Texas we shouldn't really worry about our class ranks/GPA as much as our SAT and ACT score since the universities such as A&M and UT would recognize this. This held to be true because a lot of people in the 35th-50th percentile got accepted probably due to their scores being similar to other school's top 15% scores.
