Scholarships at Texas A&M

The deadline for scholarships is on December 1st, I think. The deadline for financial aid and the application itself is sometime in January. I'm thinking about submitting my application for scholarships a few days before the December deadline, because I want to retake my SAT (2180 ) and Math IIc (720 )

My question is, does it make a difference when you apply for scholarships?

As long as you are before the deadline, no.

To apply to TAMU, you have to do it through applytexas, which will automatically put you through scholarship applications. "Scholarships & Financial Aid offers academic scholarships for incoming freshmen. Students apply for all university level scholarships through the ApplyTexas application" (https://scholarships.tamu.edu/tamu_s.../freshman.aspx) However, the school doesn't hand out scholarships until March, so they will use the highest score you have prior to Dec 1.

Get it in before the deadline and you will be fine. Get as good a score on the SAT as possible because these suckers are haaarrrrd to get.

^ How good of an SAT score qualifies you for a scholarship that is $1k+? I didn't study for the one I took, so I thought a 2180 was decent, but everyone knows you have to do better than that for scholarships. I messed up on Math II because I made visible stray marks (thought I skipped a question on the scantron and started erasing everything), so I'll retake it. I guess I'll take Physics with it (in November) since I'm taking Calc BC, Physics C, and some other math-related classes next year.

There is no telling really. These scholarships are based on how complete of a student you are. So having a good SAT score is only one small part of the whole package. You need a solid rank, gpa, test score, ec's, etc, and even then, these scholarships are not easy to get. It isn't like other schools where a certain SAT score qualifies you for a certain amount of money guaranteed.

2150 got D an honors scholarship (and tuition waiver) but she also had a great GPA, rank and EC's. She also did all 3 essays. She didn't take any SAT II's. But I'm sure anything extra you can do could only help. Good luck!

^ No. Not an NMF or an NMSF. I'm not even in NHS. I basically have nothing to put down for honors.

There's nothing wrong with not being NMF or NMSF. You can still get a scholarship.
