My D' friend is a freshman MT at Texas and LOVES it there. She along with other Texas MT majors just filmed a scene with Jack Black in his new movie, and then did a concert with Andrew Lippa. Having a great experience and getting a lot of opportunities!

Oh, every time I hear how great TSU is (and I believe it is, too) I get stressed out worrying that D won't get a call back. It's one of her top picks. :-( Pointless thing to worry about but I can't help it.

Wow, what a great article. Thanks for sharing. Good for Texas State! They deserve the publicity in Austin, and in the New York Times. Ms. Hopkins is building such a competitive program with all her connections. Our daughter would be one of the lucky few if she made it in. And Robin Lewis has so many impressive Broadway credits also. What a dream school. Well, we can dream, right?

I know! even if D doesn't end up getting an offer, I'm really thrilled that it looks like Texas is getting another world class program.

(now we just need about half a dozen more... ;-) )

I have looked for Texas State at the top of the page here with the college listings and can't find it. (alphabetical order?)
Can anyone help me out?

The list you see at the top of the MT Forum is not an exhaustive list of all colleges offering MT. It is simply a list of sub forums that CC set up a while back to organize existing threads on various colleges or programs. If many threads exist on a particular school, a forum is set up to keep them filed in one place. Texas State is a newer program and there are not a lot of existing threads on it. The list at the top is NOT meant to be a list of all MT colleges, nor best, or recommended colleges. It simply is a list of links to individual forums on particular college programs.

The complete list of MT colleges is provided in the following thread called "The Big List":
(which is pinned to the top of the list of threads on the MT Forum)

Big List of MT Colleges

You will see that Texas State is listed there in Post #2 which is the most up to date listing on CC of MT college programs.

Thanks so much for the info. I have learned a lot from this website and have a feeling I'm going to be relying on it more and more. Such a great resource.

I know students who got both rejected and accepted today at TSU. You should be hearing at any time I believe!

I'm already in school, but I know a lot who auditioned and who are standing by their phones and mailboxes!

Mom2them,

You should find out all that you can about Texas State. I have visited there twice. Once just to check it out and again for my son's audition. Each time I was blown away. Kaitlin Hopkins is a creating something very special. Our audition was during the school's spring break and 8-10 kids stayed in town to help out (they stayed at Kaitlin's house because the dorms were closed.) They were far and away the friendliest, nicest kids that I met during the audition process. They love the school and the faculty. This program is red hot and I believe it will be one of the elites once the word gets out and her students hit the streets.

Thanks Dad! My D is a sophomore so we have just a little over a year before its time for her to begin the audition/application process during her senior year. We are in New Orleans, so I am looking for schools in the south that won't break the bank!! My D also has fairly good academic stats (4.0 unweighted GPA, ACT=25 & PSAT=192 as freshman, all honors/gifted classes, total of 7 AP classes by the time she graduates), so we are also hopeful that will provide some merit scholarship money!!

At the moment, we are visiting state schools during Easter break and looking to schedule others during the summer. We might just have to go west during the summer!

mom2them - I'm doing the same thing as you. My D is a sophomore and we are visiting schools over break and looking into summer visits as well. Reading everything on this site has given me a wealth of information also someone recommended when you make the summer visists to go to campuses that have a summer program going on that way you can see what it is like. Best of luck!
