I will definitely keep you posted Times3-- she went to see Henry IV at Monomoy Theatre (the Cape Cod summer stock company affiliated with Hartt) and was blown away. Met several future profs and older students, and loved them. Now to get her life stuffed into a suitcase and moved over there!

Adelphi's mainstage list, '12-13:

Uncommon Women and Others
Good Person of Szechwan
Freshman Showcase - decided during the semester; last year it was Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon
A Christmas Carol - annual staged reading
All in the Timing
The Basset Table - a restoration comedy
Living Newspaper - original play by Adelphi prof Brian Rose
Dept of Theatre Student Cabaret

There are few student productions in the fall. In the spring there are a number of plays that serve as capstone projects for Seniors, which are cast with current students. At Adelphi, too, freshmen are not cast in mainstage shows, although they do have their fall play and may be in senior capstones (my D was in one and had a terrific experience), plus scenes for the directing classes.

My rising sophomore D was not cast in the first two plays (sadly) but she will be working on Good Person of Szechwan, assisting the professional composer who is creating original music on unconventional instruments. She is very excited about that. There is guaranteed casting second-fourth year, and she is prepping for the next round of auditions.

I love that play! My school did it my freshman year. I didn't get a part so I was on crew, it was still my first real experience with being involved in theatre (middle school was so bad it doesn't really count)

Chapman's fall mainstage season will be Sondheim's "Company" and "If All The Sky Were Paper" by Andrew Carroll. Not sure what student productions will go up in that time or what's happening in the spring yet, stay tuned.

I can't name my high school because the list wasn't officially released yet, but we've got an unannounced underclassmen play, directed mainly by students, then we are doing The Skin of Our Teeth for our Fall Show, some Shakespeare pieces for a Renaissance Fair Competition, a cabaret of scenes for the upperclassmen, and Peter Pan for our Spring Musical! Plus, we do six students directed plays at the end of the year!

Chapman's mainstage spring season will be "Stage Door" and "Twelfth Night."

What is your favorite production? We need to choose one this year and we need ideas! Small-medium cast, easy set, comedic.

Thanks!

Isaiah-- check out "Leading Ladies" by Ken Ludwig. Three women, five men, a few utility roles, and the funniest thing I've ever been in.

Basic plot: Two broke British Shakespearean actors are touring small-town America when they hatch a get-rich-quick scheme to swindle a local dowager out of her fortune by pretending to be her long-lost English nephews. However, they've been misinformed-- she's actually got long-lost English NIECES. Undaunted, they pose as women and try to dodge suspicion whilst attempting to collect the two million dollar inheritance. As you may have guessed, much hilarity ensues.

She belongs to the student-run Musical Theatre Club and their shows (fall semester--not decided on spring musical yet) are:

Bye Bye Birdie

I promised to keep Times3 informed and did I? No. I saw Antigone at Hartt and thought it was wonderful. I wish I'd gotten to see other, especially Miss Saigon which was directed by Kevin Gray who starred in it on Broadway. D said it was stunning.

Spring theater season at Hartt--

The Caucasian Chalk Circle
On the Twentieth Century
The King Stag
Two Gentlemen of Verona
Big River
The Drowsy Chaperone
two others TBD All are faculty or guest directed
And showcase for the seniors

She's very, very happy there, Times3-- it's just a very solid and intense training. A lot of good surprises too-- a great theater scene in Hartford--she'll have an internship in January. West Hartford is a cool town, and there's easy transportation to NYC, Boston, Amherst etc.

I'm seeing you all gear up for audition season and wishing your kids great success!
