Anyone else submit their ED application?

I feel as if I just found out about CC and started reading about the harrowing application process, and here we are, the ED app all sent in! Actually, when S hit the submit button, an earthquake hit here in the Northeast. Not an omen, I hope . . . Lots of wiggly things still need to go in (SAT & ACT scores, transcripts, etc.) but all the requests for those things have been made. So it is all in others' hands, and the waiting begins.

Altho he still needs to do a few more essays for EA schools, S is also signing up to do a monologue scholarship competition that will take place all day on Dec. 15 - the day he's supposed to hear from the ED school. That should keep him occupied that week, so he's not fretting.

My concern is that if S is rejected, will he rally 'round enough to do his other auditions in Jan/Feb? Hope so - it's all a gamble.

Anyway - best of luck to other ED'ers!

Best of luck to your son, Marbleheader! Was his ED for a BFA program w/audition? In any event, wishing him great news in December.

Marbleheader, we are so excited for you and the boy, and we'll be rooting for him as auditions and acceptances roll around. Mine's doing a monologue competition too--the night before we leave for a big college audition--I'm hoping the distraction will be a good thing! (is yours Shakespeare?). I definitely feel a pang of jealousy for ED parents; yes, it's a gamble, but the possibility of a quick resolution is so appealing. My S has one prescreen passed and one audition under his belt...now has to focus on knocking out the applications (the Common App is basically done, so it's supplement time) and on preparing for the ACT next weekend. Oh, and the additional monologues....not to mention his regular schoolwork...

Good luck to your son, marbleheader! My D did ED the year she applied and I always offer one piece of advice to those who choose to go this route. Make sure that they have all of their other applications ready to go, or already in, before the December decision date. My D was accepted ED but we've known kids who aren't as fortunate in the ED round and the last thing they want to do in that short window before Jan. apps are due is to be working on them.

Yes, alwaysamom, the other two apps will be completed and sent in by Dec 1 with auditions in Jan., and that will leave him only one non-audition app to send in Jan 1 if he doesn't get in ED. That app is just a straight common app submit, so it won't be too painful.

madbean - first, I love your name! Yes, he is doing an auditioned BFA ED.

Times3 - no, the monologue competition is for the Mass Educational Theatre Guild, which runs our Dramafest competition. S will do two monologues of his choice - no specifications other than 2 mins. apiece. Again, BUSTI comes in handy as he probably will do the two he worked on there! It is a long shot for a scholarship, but it only costs $10 to enter so I thought it would be a great diversion while waiting for his ED answer. Plus, his theatre teacher wants him to do it.

Marbleheader---we have plane reservations to Boston in mid-November for the early audition at BU, so my D better have that application in this week! We had hoped to submit it this past week, but it's performance week at her high school. "The Crucible." It's going well!

Yeah! I know one of the Olivias already did her submit, and I think the other one is almost ready, too. Your D does have until the 1st, but I'm sure you'd be happy if she gets it in sooner!

Great that the play is going well - but I will say that I just got back from taking S to his voice lesson. It is in Beverly, which is two towns over. Unfortunately the town in between is SALEM, MASS!!!! It is a parking lot, with hordes of people milling around. We leave 1 hour earlier than his lesson, and we barely make it in time - normally 15 mins. Now if it were the Salem of The Crucible's time, we'd have no trouble driving our ox-pulled wagon right through there!

My D is a tech kid, but her ED app has been submitted. She has that interview and visit the second weekend in November. All the other applications are in, too, because this ED school is a HUGE, HUGE reach.

Our S has sent in his SCEA application (non-theatre) plus his UK aps (which were due Oct.15), and our D applied ED (theatre) her year as well. I agree that it's smart to get all the other aps finished before those first decisions come in case it's an early demotivating "no", which with reach schools must always be anticipated. ;-D
