transferring to UNC Charlotte....help??!!!

I'm trying to transfer to UNCC for the Fall '11 term, what all do I need to do?

I graduated hs in '07 (homeschooled) & enrolled @ a local comm. college. I quit there & went to work full-time, worst decision of my life.

Now I have decided to return college & try transferring this fall. I am at a different comm. college, I have 3 credit hrs from this school while dual enrolled, & will be taking 11 this semester & 10 over the summer. That will give me the 24 credit hrs I need to transfer to UNCC.

I graduated from high school with a 3.27 GPA & a SAT score of 1490 (May '06). I know those aren't great numbers, but are decent for getting into a school like UNCC. I also have met the hs class requirements; math, english, science, etc.

The remaining requirement is to have a cumulative 2.0 college GPA. That is the problem, for now. My GPA at the comm. college I'm currently enrolled is 1.2. I passed a computer class, that transfers with a B, but received an F for an english course, ENG-111, I quit & didn't withdraw from. I am retaking that english class now, along with MAT-171 & HUM-122. After I pass english the F will be removed. Over the summer I plan to take to more credits to give me the 24 hrs needed to transfer.

I am a bright student, when motivated, & fully intend to make A's in all my spring/summer courses. This should bring my GPA up over 3.0 (4-5 As, 1 B, 1 F-retaken)

I applied yesterday & paid the $50 fee & will be sending my hs transcript, SAT scores, & college transcript in the mail Monday.

My uncle, who was head of admissions @ a NC comm. college for 30 yrs, told me to apply now & send in all the transcripts I currently have. He said to apply now, even with the low GPA, instead of waiting later when my GPA is higher. He said the sooner I get my application in the better.

He also told me that until they had the admission fee they wouldn't tell me anything, but after they get it & review my app. (4-6 weeks) they should work with me to show me what I need to get accepted.

I have all the hs requirements, SAT scores, & hs GPA that fit in the lower 50% of accepted freshman for '09. But, obviously with a 1.2 college GPA I won't get accepted now.

How do I get in contact with them after my app. has been reviewed to find out what I need to do to get accepted? Also, once I finish this semester (& then the summer) how do I get my updated transcript from m comm college, which will have my new, much improved GPA, added to my application for them to see?

I know UNCC isn't the hardest school to get into, they have a pretty high acceptance rate. Also, I have found that UNCC has an acceptance rate of around 75-76% for transfer students, roughly 3400 of 4100 applicants for fall '09 were accepted. On the application for race I checked white & native american (I am enrolled & registered with a tribe recognized by the state of North Carolina), so I'm considered a minority, if that helps anything.

What are my chances of getting accepted considering my past boneheaded moves which have given me a low GPA? Once I complete this semester & have my GPA around 3.0 (2.0 needed) will it show I am committed to school, as well as give me the marks I need to get in. Will the school work with me to help me get in or will I just be sent a denial letter?

Please, any & all help/information will be much appreciated. I know a lot of people will say just stay @ the comm college longer, but that really isn't an option. I am ready to move away from home (I'm 22) & my girlfriend & her best friend are transferring to UNCC this fall. Most importantly, I'm ready to continue my education & start a career.

If I left any needed info out just let me know.......

Sorry for the grammar errors that I'm sure are there, I'm on my android.

Please refrain from excessively long posts. People will not read them most of the time because it is rather intimidating.

That being said, I suggest you withdraw your application and try harder and apply for Spring '12. If you get rejected and nothing changes, you will most likely get rejected again.

    Good Luck!

First of all, I don't know how your uncle got a position as an admission committe at a college because he just gave you the worst advice I have ever heard in my life.

Here is what you need to do:

    1) withdraw your application because you have ZERO chance of getting in at this moment
    2) spend at least 4 semesters (2 years) at your community college and bring your GPA up to at least a minimum required by UNC charlotte.
    3) Predicting what grades you will get is easy but doing well in them is another story. Focus on your studies because you need to show colleges an upward trend.
    4) even if UNC charlotte has a 70% admission rate that doesn't necessarily mean they will take someone with a 1.2 GPA. There is just no way.
    5) Unless a family member of yours is the owner of UNC charlotte then do what I said in step

    Good luck.

He advised me to go ahead & fill out the application part (which is just background info & such) & pay the application fee so that I can set up a time to meet with an admissions counselor.....He said if I've paid the app fee they'll be much more willing to work with me on showing me what I need to do to get accepted. I had my high school transcript & SAT scored mailed to them, but I'm waiting until the end of this semester to send my college transcript.

    1.... can't

2.... MY college transcript only has 2 grades, an F & a B. I will have a 3.0 + at the comm. college after this semester & atleast a 2.5 including my failed class....which is above the required 2.0 by UNCC.

    3.... I have no doubt I can/will make all A's in the 3 classes I'm taking now....I made a 98 on my first test in MAT-171 & the ENG/HUM classes are easy.

4.... When I send my transcript from the comm. college in at the end of this semester it won't be 1.2....somewhere between 2.5-3.2

I guess I worded it wrong about applying now, all I've done is paid the application fee & filled out the form with all my basic info (so it'll be processed & on file asap)

I also had my mom send a copy of my high school transcript to them, & called to have my SAT score sent. I won't submit my college transcript until this semester ends in May & my GPA is well above the required average. My application will be put on hold until they receive my college transcript.
