Official NYU 2012 Transfer Thread

I suppose it is a bit early, but I guess it has to be made eventually anyway.

I am a sophomore and will be applying to Stern as a Management major for junior entry.

GPA - 3.71 (If I get all A's next semester, should be a 3.85)
Credits - 60 by time of application (Out of which 15 will be from NYU since I am study abroad at NYU London this semester)
Prerequisites Completed - All
SAT - Not submitting
High School GPA - 3.7

I also applied to Stern (Finance) for Fall 2011, but I didn't get in. I think my poor SAT scores and incomplete pre-requisites played a big part in that. Hopefully this time around it will be better.

Who else is applying for 2012?

I think you should look elsewhere. The Stern tour guide told us that Stern rejected many internal transfer requests at a higher GPA than yours, let alone a student from outside. The success transfer rate at stern is probably hovering around 2%

^haha I'll bet it's significantly higher than that. I was accepted to stern for Fall 11, GPA was 3.9. The problem is that the school gives virtually zero financial aid. I think they need to admit a good amount of kids because they know a lot won't be able to afford it and will decline.

OP, make sure you can afford 50k/year to attend before you get your heart set on the school.

Looking through previous years threads, people with 3.6's and 3.7's have been admitted. In any case, internal transfer in Stern is generally considered to be harder than external.

I have an e-mail from an admissions counselor from Stern who said that the acceptance rate for external transfers is in line with freshman admissions for Stern, making it around 10-15%.

Yep, money is not an issue.
I'm applying to NYU, USC, BU and Northeastern, along with Wharton and Columbia Econ (Don't really expect to get in there, but it's worth a shot).

Hi everyone. I'm studying in California Community College thinking about tranfer to Stern. Just finished my first year, 33 units, GPA 4.0, probably will end up in 72 units by the end of spring semester next year. btw I'm international student too. Budget cut in cali now is pretty annoying, prevent students from enrolling lots of programs or finding job at the campus. my high school gpa is ok, little bit higher than 3.7. SAT sucked since my english is the second language, but my SAT subject is good (800 in Math, 800 in Physics, 770 in chemistry). ECs are normal, not outstanding but nor a significant weakness. How's my chance?

@Buegie When you say no financial aid do you mean just stern or all of nyu? I'm not exactly sure how nyu breaks down but if it matters I'd be applying for math (Courant Institute?)

If you're applying to Stern, make sure you have your required classes. I am a Stern student and it seems that there is very little freedom in scheduling classes until you are a junior, and even then half the classes you take are the business core classes. If you don't have required classes, you might fall behind even if you get in.

Hey Giantmidget,

I remember seeing you in the 2011 transfer thread.

I also got rejected by stern. I am at Seattle University and I applied with a 3.83 GPA.
I am probably not going to be getting all A's this next quarter, which is sad...but i'm going to apply again anyways.

If there is early decision, I think i'll do that.

Are the transfer essays out already?

NYU doesn't have traditional "need" aid. They give out money in tiers based on how desirable of a candidate you are. I was admitted as a transfer fall 2011 and my "awards" were insulting.. ill still be re applying as a junior transfer this year but I've supplemented my list with more need aware business programs.

Hi I am a freshman at the University of Miami and want to apply to NYU College of Arts and Sciences at the end of the year to be able to begin there for Sophomore year. I was wondering if the choice of classes mattered? I am undecided and so I am taking many different classes to see what it is I gravitate towards so that I can choose a major for sophomore year. I am taking Math, Art History, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology. Next semester, I am taking an English class (I placed out of the English class for first semester because of my ACT score) and probably a science class as well, because pre-med could be an option for me.

If I get straight A's, do the classes I take matter? I know online it says that most transferees are in liberal arts courses but that's all it pretty much says.

I have a 3.93 gpa (1 b from a class in high school) some nice math courses and ec's.
I have fulfilled all their req.

hi guys, I'm applying to transfer externally into NYU Stern and I was wondering if it's okay if I use my resume as my activity sheet rather then the type of activity sheets we made for highschool applications. (since we're trying to transfer from college to college and I already have a resume made) ? Thanks for any info
