I didnt apply last year because I dont live in the LA area and I wanted to get all of my general ed done at a CC. Its too expensive to go to USC for 3-4 years and then live on my own probably without a job (depending on school schedule). Also, I wanted to apply to all of my schools at one time and in order to apply to other UC's and CSU's you have to have your general ed completed.

I'll actually be receiving my masters in 3 years after I transfer. Every program I've applied to including the one at USC are accelerated bachelors to masters programs. You receive your bachelors in 2 and then your masters in another year. I'll have my masters completed before a lot of my friends who have already transferred. It's not that I didn't want to transfer sooner, I had back surgery at the beginning of my college career which prolonged my stay at my CC.

mike - you have to do whatever it takes to fulfill that writing requirement and waitlist for a class and hope you get it. another drastic option would be to take hum core to fulfill the writing requirement for this quarter. I don't think USC accepts transfer students who don't have their writing requirements fulfilled.

@James,

I called to ask them about that writing requirement and it wont be held against you if you don't have it in. Of course, though, this mainly applies for freshmen transfers since each and every university's curriculum works differently. At my current school, the equivalent writing course isn't available to take until fourth semester, which would unfairly limit those who could apply for transferring. According the the guy on the phone, the writing requirement is mainly needed for students at CC since certain classes might not be "up to par" with the university level.

How does USC treat sophomore transfers versus junior or higher transfers? Do they prefer one over the other? I applied with 28 credits so I am two less than the 30 but i've taken all the required courses they needed like calculus II, the writing requirement, a lab based class and I'm currently doing Linear Algebra and Diff-e-q's Do you guys think they'll ask for a spring transcript too??

@emperorchintz

i would THINK usc miight prefer sophomore transfers over junior transfers since sophomore transfers would be at the university longer than juniors but then again i really have no idea...just a guess. i heard they typically ask for a spring transcript if youre a sophomore transfer since they dont have much to base their decisions off of

the average units for accepted students was 48 units if I recall. Take that however you will

I would say that junior transfers are more common, but sophomore transfers aren't necessarily disadvantaged as long as they do well with the spring grade request and high school grades were sufficient. If you didn't do so great in high school, applying as a junior transfer would give one a higher chance to transfer.

@strengthftw: How do you know that? I haven't seen USC publish information like that for their admitted transfer class.

for 2009-2010

2007-2008 the mean was 50

a little old but reasonable to expect it wont change too much unless the common app will change it

Any idea when acceptances should be coming out? My friend found out last year on March 18th. Hopefully they get to them quickly Been checking USConnect every single day hoping for some kind of status change. Anyone get a status change yet?

That couldn't be better if they come out before spring break.

hey guys!

I'm planning on applying to USC (next year) for their Health and Humanity program (which is AMAZING!) Is the program competitive? I have thoroughly researched it the program itself and have noticed that people have not talked about it on the threads. is it not a popular major?

@mitch

I'm USC or bust. The program I'm applied to (Animation & Digital Arts) is pretty unique among universities and it's the only school I can see myself attending.

I'm just hoping I don't get a spring grade request just because I'm taking both the math and the English composition requirement this semester. Hopefully they'll see my 4.0 GPA and recognize that I am going to pass them. lol
