Oh god I forgot about furniture too. I live on the west coast so not getting housing would be awful. I thought for sure we'd be able to get SOMETHING

I am on the west coast too, hoping that being on the opposite coast will put us on the top of that list!

I think Barnard really needs to build or rent out a new dormitory; you either do or don't offer housing. I hate being told "Yes, no, maybe so" a few weeks before the move-in date. A college shouldn't admit more students than it can accomodate.

Agreed. I thought they take that into account when accepting people. We'll see I guess. If we don't get housing, you guys wanna get an apartment in Morningside Heights together haha?

Sounds good to me. I'd rather stay with Barnard transfer students than residents of Morningside Heights

I just got an email saying that there will be no housing for me (junior transfer. international student) Which totally sucks. I really hate this.

I didn't get housing either. From California. What the heck Barnard

Welp, this is disheartening. No housing either. FWIW, I live in Rockland County... about a 50-minute drive from campus.

I didn't get a dorm either (from the lost city of Atlanta). Not happy. I'd definitely prefer to stay with other transfer students, but I'm going to have to opt for whatever is cheaper--I'm not sure whether it'd be more expensive to rent out a whole apartment in MH with other transfers, or to just rent out a bedroom from a tenant in the same area (latter option is around $1000 p/mo I think).

If around six transfers fill and share the cost of a small apartment, I think it would be affordable. I'm really not worried about space; I'll take a rat's nest as long as it's near Barnard and I can afford rent.

What's weird is that I stopped by ResLife not two weeks ago, and they seemed pretty upbeat about it all. I mean, even I (paranoid pessimist that I am) walked out of there feeling cautiously optimistic about my prospects. But if transfers from California are being denied housing... ouch.

I think it's going to be quite hard to rent in NYC period. Besides the annoying agents fee, you need to show proof of income that is 40-50 times(not %. times) one month rental or have a guarantor with proof of income 80times the monthly rental.

On the other hand, I just don't feel safe finding my own place so quickly without knowing anyone or the neighborhood well. I feel like Barnard really screwed up this time round because I called them a few weeks ago and they seem really upbeat and reassuring that I'll get a place on-campus.

I agree. Most of us will have to sign leases and such sight unseen. They messed up with housing hugely. I've found an apartment very close to campus (a block) that's two bedrooms for 1700 total if anyone wants to share ! My parents will cosign the lease with me (be the guarantor)
