^ I don't think you will have much trouble with Cornell and Georgetown if you have a collegiate GPA of 3.9+. The research will set you apart from other applicants. Dartmouth, however, is more selective.

Hi, I was accepted to UCB, Brown and Dartmouth and ultimately decided on Cal. At the moment, I'm thinking I might have made the wrong decision, primarily based on the fact that I no longer want to study the physical sciences as I had intended. I hope to apply to transfer to Brown, Harvard, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Yale. My hs grades were good except my last semester (I know...) and I hope to get a 4.0 this semester. I am involved in a few extracurriculars and am in the process of starting a new academic-student run history Journal with a few peers. What are my general chances?
HS gpa (After that last semester) : 3.7 (used to to be 3.88 without 2nd semester of senior year)
SAT: 2210
Subject tests: Biology (770), US Hist (800), World History (800), Lit (800), I might take the Chem test if it would improve my chances ( i suppose with less than stellar GPA in Hs I might need it)
EC
I was the president of over 5 very active clubs in HS, and my special thing was a volunteer project to teach english to immigrant children, I had about 817 hours logged.
10 ap tests with 5s, one with 2 (Senior year Calc, just did not care anymore, will this hurt me?)
Ib scores were not very good either, primarily for lack of caring, some 7s, but a few 5s (I also had a family crisis happening at the time of testing, won't say much but a close family member attempted suicide)
Lots more stuff but I don't want to type it all in atm.
Having already been accepted, will this make my chances better?
Plus I think I have a very good reason to transfer (lack of a department in near eastern studies that focuses on pre-modern history (Ottomans, Safavids, etc) )
Brown, Yale and Harvard have perhaps the only Ottoman Turkish and Classical Persian departments/courses and have professors/resources I simply cannot possess at my current school.

^ You have a good chance at the schools you want to apply to, and you have a good reason to transfer. I think you'll be accepted as long as you have a good college GPA and involve yourself in extracurricular activities.

^ You had a good high school record, but your SAT score is on the low side for the schools you want to apply to. Anyway, good luck and keep up the good work!

Current school- UMass Amherst
HS GPA- In India my school wasn't on GPA basis. And my school record sucked. 9th-74%, 10th-84%, 11th- 60% and 12th- 74%
Major- Economics, definitely going to pick another one, Finance/Maths/Anthro.
SAT- Definitely will retake them, but I am confused when I should do so. 1940 on SAT1 and 700Phy, 640 Math 2, 660 World history
The reason I wish to transfer is because, despite what my stats tell otherwise, I really enjoy studying, especially in those classes which offer classes based on Socratic method. I hate taking notes, cramming before exams. The most memorable times for me in school have been when I debate, discuss things, instead of plainly hearing to classes and taking down notes. But when I applied to the universities, I knew that I'd be rejected from all the top ones. I chose UMass Amherst, because it's a good school, plus I really like what all I have read about Massachusetts. And also I was given a scholarship as well, so that didn't hurt
UMass is a great school. To all those who want to come here, do so, it's a really good place. But it's just that my interests are different from most of the people here. So the colleges I would like to transfer out to would be some of the Ivies, liberal arts colleges, UChicago. I literally cried when I got rejected from Chicago and Williams (even though I had expecting it), because that meant I wouldn't be able to attend the Oxford- like classes. I do want to try desperately to transfer out to these colleges. You guys think this reason seems good enough for me to try to?

It's been a month into my first semester and although part of me wants to leave UMass just to upgrade my surrounding academic standards, it's been way too easy to make friends and feel at home here. I also happen to live on a part of campus away from the madness of Southwest, which is where all the best food and the most out of control parties happen to be. I suppose I'm just being picky for saying that Umass Amherst's standards are too low for me because so many consider this school to be a great option. But, what's wrong with being picky? I want the best and I want to be challenged. I won't really be able to decide if Umass is academically right for me until the end of the semester when I actually have a GPA from here. However, so far, my courses are much less challenging than I expected them to be. Even calc 3 here feels like the easiest math class I've ever taken.
Anyone have any thoughts about this? Anyone else feel that they want to transfer purely for academic reasons even though they've had no trouble socially? With the above considered, I just need a better way to approach the decision of whether to stay or not.

So, I am currently in a good position as far as grades are concerned. I have a B in Physics (However, I am very worried about the upcoming test; we are currently on Special and General Relativity...) Unfortunately, I have a B in Calc 2 as well; I really need to step that up. The rest of my classes should be A's by the end of the semester. I'll need to cram Calc 3 and Linear algebra during winter to prepare for Caltech's transfer test. I'll also probably need a more rigorous review of physics.

@iborpastan I feel the same. I have made good friends at my current school and I would hate to leave for that reason. However, I am going to place my academics and career first.
Also, I have A's in all my classes and a (slightly) improved ACT score of 30.

I need to add some classes to my schedule for the Spring.
Calc 3 (4 hours)
Linear Algebra (3 Hours)
Basic Concepts Of Math ( Mathematical proofs, set theory, mathematical
induction and recursion, binary relations, functions,
definition and development of some common number
systems, cardinal numbers, abstract algebra. ) (3 Hours)
Comprehensive Physics (Gravity
A treatment of electromagnetism which builds on relativity
Atomic, nuclear, and particle physics
Statistical mechanics and thermodynamics) (5 hours with lab)
I might add on ODEs, but that is very math heavy as it is.
