Full ride at Georgetown (MSB) or sticker price at NYU Stern?

Hey everybody, I am a transfer student (rising junior) from Rutgers University (NB) and I recently got accepted in NYU Stern where I have to pay every penny ( probably take loans) and Georgetown's Mcdonough School of Business where I have a full ride. I am an accounting and finance major and I want to break into investment banking. I dont think I would like to anything other than that so there is no other option for me. I really want to work at Wall Street. What do you guys think of both schools in terms of recruting for Wall Street? I will really appreciate your comments and opinions. I know Stern is a target but how would you equate free ride and opportunities at Stern? Thank you everyone for reading this.

In terms of recruiting and better chance of breaking into the business I'd say Stern but it can't be easy to pass up a full ride to a great school like Georgetown. Tough choice.

all the BBs recruit at Georgetown for all the divisions

All the big firms recruit, and from all majors (if you can impress them). I've had friends in COL, MSB, and SFS all land jobs/internships in IB. I remember a statistic from somewhere that Georgetown was 4th in terms of percentage of grads in finance/IB
Quote:
I just got back from a Goldman Sachs information session. The senior Georgetown recruiter/representative announced that Goldman Sachs, this year, ranked Georgetown 3rd in its list of core schools. This means, generally, that Goldman will recruit Georgetown kids so that it is the 3rd most represented school. Just another example of Georgetown's amazing career network.
Also, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Citi, etc. all recruited from Georgetown.

Georgetown University: Undergraduate Profile - BusinessWeek

These statistics and quotes show that Georgetown is a highly recruited school on Wall Street. No school is worth being 120K in debt for, especially when you have a full ride at an equally good, (and overall more prestigious) than Stern. Georgetown has a better campus and a better college experience, while DC is still a great city.

Go to Georgetown. My friend had the same decision (she wants to go into IB too, no aid at either and still chose Georgetown. Her Dad is an alumni who went into IB from Georgetown and has really done well for himself).

@giantmidget I think I saw your posts on Stern Transfer thread ( correct me if I am wrong). Talking to a Sttern student I found out that 30-40% of a graduating class have jobs at wall street. I dont know if this true or not but what did you think of Georgetown's graduating class ending up at wall street? Like Stern Students, are people at Georgetown MSB also dead set for finance jobs at Wall Street? Thank you

Same as what Floridadad said: Easy choice, Georgetown!
That's saving over $100k, not to mention that McDonough School of Business is just as good as Stern in my opinion.

Post this on the Search & Selection and/or Business Major forums for additional input.

Both Georgetown and NYU Stern are targets for IB and are probably equal in recruiting. With that said, Georgetown is a much more prestigious school (it matters in IB) and will provide you with a great education. It also has a great campus and a good social scene. NYU doesn't.

NYU Stern will probably get you IB, but a lot of people do not enjoy their experience at Stern.

Georgetown will also probably get you IB. Go Georgetown and don't look back.

Even without the full ride, I see this as a no-brainer.

yes yes yes! please carefully consider everything giantmidget posted. Georgetown is a top choice for recruiters and you will not regret choosing it over NYU.

Think of it this way: if you go to NYU full price, you will have no option but to work yourself to the bone for a number of years just to simply pay back those loans. If you go to Georgetown, you will most likely get the same career opportunities, but be working to save up for a fantastic lifestyle with no financial burden.

Sounds like you made the right choice. I was just thinking that you might go over the allowable undergraduate load amount by going to NYU. Georgetown is a world-renowned school and DC is such an interesting place to live. Congrats.
