Since I'm in the same boat as you I'm probably not the best person to ask. Check with your USC admissions counselor for definite answers. Better to be safe.

@bubbletea94 Thanks for your input. What do you think I should emphasize when writing the essay? I am a first generation college student.

@Schully Well first do you have any essay other than the "why transfer" one to write, like from the supplements? I don't feel like I can pick what you should emphasize because I don't really know anything about you, and it should be something you feel the most strongly about. Did you go through any struggles to get to where you are? Did any particular event make you decide you wanted to go to USC? For me, I have no huge event that really stands out. I'm just going to be honest about my numerous reasons for wanting to transfer-- why I like USC, what USC has that my school doesn't, what I feel I can get from USC and what I can give back. I will probably emphasize the certain majors/programs at USC I want to pursue and the fact that USC offers opportunities for many of my interests.

@Shully you want to write you essay that makes you stand out be unique etc etc. For me I graduated high school at the age of 16. That's what my essays will mostly be about. Have you done any work that has a correlation to your major? For ex if you are a journalism major you may have taken a journalism class in hs or worked for a paper etcetc. Just be honest. This is as close they get to get a feeling of who you are.

@SatinderChhokar I have, but just filling out common app stuff mostly. I've already done my short response about ECs but i'm probably gonna edit it a whole lot in the future. I'm really eager to start on my big "why transfer" essay but I just don't have the time at the moment. the next free days i'll have to spend hours writing (I take forever to write essays) will probably be Thanksgiving break

Hey all,

I'm applying to USC as a film production major, back-up philosophy major.

Any tips on the film portfolio/application? Is Philo a difficult major to transfer into?

My gpa now is a 3.6 and may go up some this semester, not sure. My rec letters are from film professor at my current school (University of Florida) and one from my philosophy TA. I have more work experience than I do EC's, but I currently have a exec position in the film club.

Any chance?

@theildream try to get your GPA up, as last year's average transfer GPA was a 3.7. then again, if you're applying for film production the decision will be based much less on your grades than it is for normal students (not applying to SCA) because your portfolio plays a big part. I wouldn't think philosophy is particularly hard to transfer into. I haven't heard of it being competitive or overly popular and of course, there's no additional portfolio or anything to have done. It's hard to chance you when we have no idea what your portfolio is like. honestly that can make or break you.

@chess2520 none of the common app school forms are needed for transfer students

What do they look at

If I apply as a sophomore transfer student for Fall 2012. Do they look at my first and second semester grades as a college freshman? Or do they still look at my HS grades since by February (deadline), I still would not have my second semester grades

@ajindt i'm assuming you meant fall 2013. they look at both your high school grades and your first semester college grades, and in the spring they might send you a spring grade request. from there on, they will make a decision. if they feel they have enough info to make a decision, they can accept or reject you based on just your high school and first semester college grades.

note: if you have more than 30 credits, they won't look at your high school grades. but i'm assuming you don't have over 30 since you're a freshman.

Ahhh you're making me nervous.

I'm definitely working on the GPA. Never would I have thought a 3.6 to be bad! Anyone notice UCLA's required transfer GPA is like a 3.3 (I think, I know it's pretty love). I'm also applying there.

I like to think I have a pretty good portfolio. Any one else applying to SCA?
How far is everyone on there essays?

Besides USC, where else is everyone applying?
So far, I'm applying to USC, UCLA and Chapman

HI GANG,
im new to this forum. i was wondering if there was an additional essay to apply to USC Marshall program as a transfer student. I completed the Common Application Why transfer essay, but i want to double check and make sure there is not an additional essay for the Marshall program. (:

hello
I'm also new to this forum

I'm also wondering is there any additional essay needed to apply to USC beside the Common Application Why transfer and work experience essays??

my major is still undecided since I just have 58 quarter units.

@theildream
I'm also want to apply to UCLA and CSUF/CSULB, but UC and CSU stated they just want upper division transfer/junior transfer students (at least have 60 semester units/90 quarter units)

so my option is only transfer to private university, I think I'm going to apply to USC,LMU,Pomona College,Pepperdine and maybe Chapman
