Can I get in somewhere better?

I'm going to Hofstra for accounting in the fall as a transfer student. I'm going into the honors college with a 3.71 GPA and 49 credits. I'm reading alot and seeing how Hofstra is not regarded as that great a school.

I have a GED
I never took a SAT
I did take all my regents and stuff

Do you think theirs any chance I can get into a school like Penn State or other highly ranked schools? I have A's in all my business/math/accounting class's, english is my weak point.

I'm not positive about Penn State, but I do think you have a shot at a better school.
But you'll never know unless you apply! My suggestion is to apply to one or two "dream schools" like Penn State.

If you have time to take and do well on the SATs, I would do it. If not, don't bother.

I don't know if this is how colleges see it, but I personally think it shows a lot of commitment and personal dedication that you got your GED. So if only from me...congrats on that

You're excelling in the honors college. Your resume will reflect that. Plus, you don't know how many credits may be lost in a transfer. These are compelling arguments to stay.

Thank you guys, I don't think I gave enough information. I'm currently at a community college. I breezed through getting A's in everything without much effort.

Accounting major
have A's in all business core classes. 2 Bus law's, both ecos, Acc 101 and 102, 1 stat class, psych, mgt, quant analysis, etc. have 1 C in english 102

49 credits at community college, Hofstra is giving me about 15K to go there

I have a GED as I dropped out of High School and I don't want to take the SAT's.

Do you think it would make sense to stay at hofstra and graduate with the honors, if I plan on my cpa?

Why didn't you just apply to Penn State in the first place?

If you don't want to be at Hofstra, then take a year off, put your business class skills to work in some job somewhere, make some money, and apply to a different list of colleges and universities next time around.

Comparing Hofstra to Penn State on financial issues, remember that what Hofstra is giving you in aid doesn't matter. Your net cost after aid does. Will Penn State be less expensive for you? If not, how would you cover that difference?

I honestly didn't do my research and Hofstra is local. Money really isn't much of an issue.

Also I plan on staying on Long Island. Will it matter if I have a degree from Hostra or Indiana or Illinois? If I'm eventually getting my C.P.A?
