I have a question about transferring from a CC to a 4-year university

I am currently attending a community college and am wondering if I have any chances for transferring to any of the top 20 ranking schools in U.S. Let me post my academic stat:

High school GPA: 3.85

SAT : about 1750 (but will take the test again)

GPA at CC : 3.80

Major : Social Sciences - plans to major either in philosophy or in American literature

Please help! I am so concerned with my future options for schools!

Of course you do. The privates you'll need a better SAT score. GPA-wise a 3.8 makes you competitive (I can only speak for my state) for UC Berkeley and UCLA.

To be honest, though...neither of those are really going to help you get a job unless you want to teach. I think those two majors were found as the least useful but to each his own. Maybe you do want to teach. I know someone who got into UC Berkeley with a 3.9 GPA in English.

Anyways, good luck. In the end though, prestige isn't everything. Until graduate or professional school.

Have a backup plan for career options. My girlfriend's brother was a Philosophy major at Brown and wound up working at my Rite-Aid. Go figure.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply! Actually I've decided to stay at CC for 2 more semesters to get an A.S. degree in Informational Technology. I heard that knowing how to work with computer helps a lot in hiring.
