I am currently enrolled as a freshman at Boston University as a full-time student. I from California and i am looking to transfer back home for school. I am looking to transfer to a UC mainly. Mostly looking at UCI, UCSB, UCR, and really any other school that i can transfer into my second year of college. I've become really desperate about transferring back, so i'm open to options. The only thing i dont want to do is attend a CC after going to BU for a full year. Is there anything i can do?

Previously accepted in to UCSB, Boston College, and Boston University
top 7% of high school graduating class of over 600
played two years of football in high school
swam for varsity senior of high school and got rookie of the year
50+ hours of community service at the hospital
10+ hours of community service to local charities
10+ hours of tutoring for government/economics
Cumulative high school GPA of 3.9
GPA breakdown:
Freshman year: 3.6, 3.6
Sophomore year: 3.6, 3.5
Junior: 4.0, 4.3
Senior: 4.0, 4.0
4 AP Classes, passing all AP tests
Vice president of gay-straight alliance (2 years)
Member of American Cancer edification society club (1 year)
Psychology major wishing to switch to Mathematics
Currently taking a writing class, Calculus 1, Physiological Psychology, and third-semester Spanish

Once again, i am open to options as long is it will get me back to California. My main questions are:
How do i stack up? What are the chances of me getting in? How many sophomore transfers are accepted at UCs each year? Where else should i apply in california? Which major would be best-suited for transfer? What can i do to better my chances of getting in?

I could be wrong, but I don't think most/all of the UC accept sophomore transfers. I think you have to transfer as an incoming junior.

Also, the UCs give a priority to CC grads who transfer in.

Maybe Merced is an exception since it wants more students.

Since transferring as a soph to a UC (and most/all CSUs) is unlikely, then you need to consider some Calif privates (if affordable)....maybe USD, USF, Chapman, USC, Santa Clara, etc.

You list UCI, UCR, and UCSB...does that mean we should assume that you want Southern Calif schools?

School has JUST started. Why are you already looking to transfer?

What was your SAT score?

How much will your parents pay?

My SAT scores were 1790 (reading: 630 math: 660 writing: 560) for my first try and 1850 (reading: 510 math: 660 writing: 620) for my second.

I also got a 29 on my ACT. (english 28, math 32, reading 26, science 29, and combined english/writing 27)

Well, my current tuition and fees is bordering $60,000 so anything below would be good. I have $40K in financial aid as well.

It is safe to assume that I prefer to transfer to a school in southern california, or at least somewhere in close proximity (2-3 hours max).

I am looking to transfer because moving so far away from home just wasn't the right step for me. I did want to get away from home, but i didnt realize how much i would be leaving and for how long i would be leaving for. When i made my decision to go to BU, i hadn't thought my decision through fully. I will do all that it takes to get accepted as a transfer. I really just want to move to a school back in california.

Is transferring as a sophomore to a private school more realistic? Do private schools typically accept sophomore transfers? What do you think my chances are of getting into a private university like USD or Chapman? Any other schools that you suggest?

Hi there, UCs only accept junior transfers(I was accepted for this fall 2012). Anyway my girlfriend also just transferred to BU this fall and I have just moved to Boston as well. It is definitely a big change from california. However if your really want to go back to california, some schools that PROBABLY accept Sophomore transfers are Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Stanford, USD, USC and such...You can go to www.commonapp.org and search. Start the application now to make it as thoughtful and as good as possible. If you can wait another year, UC is really easy to get into. Just maintain a >3.2 GPA and u should be virtually in for at least UC Davis, UC Irvine(why?because I had a gpa of 3.0 from a cc and got accepted in UCLA, IRVINE, RIVERSIDE AND DAVIS.), UCLA would be a reach.UC Berkeley is also a good consideration.

Congratulations to you and your girlfriend on your move! It's entirely different from California, that's for sure. Oh wow! I'd imagine that a UC would be difficult to get into as a transfer! This is off topic and doesn't help you, but where there any other reasons you are transferring out of BU?

I'm from California right now and am looking to tranfser to BU my junior year. Besides being far away from home, is there anything about BU that you didn't like and that factored into your decision?
