Senioritis...

At the end of my senior year, I didn't think of transferring--and thus, slacked off.

I didn't slack off majorly, but while I was a straight-A student for the majority of my high school career (with 1-2 A-'s here and there), I just wanted to enjoy my last year at high school without too much stress and got 2 B+'s second semester senior year. (I also got a C+ in AP Physics first semester, but I legitimately tried in that class.)

Now, however, I may be looking into transferring, so how will those 2 B+'s during second semester senior year and the C+ during first semester impact me? Will college adcoms be relatively understanding with the second semester grades, as compared to slacking off in previous semesters?

And if it matters, I am an Asian American enrolled in the honors program of a private top 50 (U.S. N&W) university in the Northeast (of which less than 20 are accepted) and am thinking about pre-med. Yeah, the AP Physics grade is terrible, but my first semester grades so far are good (~4.0), and college grades seem to factor into transfer admissions more, according to my research.

The preliminary list of places I'm thinking of applying to are (they will definitely be narrowed down later):

Pitzer
Pomona
University of Southern California (USC)
UCLA
University of Pennsylvania
Swarthmore
Haverford
Vanderbilt

Thank you!

*My apologies for the double post, but I can't edit the original post anymore:

The ones that I'm seriously considering are: Pitzer, Pomona, UPenn, Swarthmore, and Vanderbilt.

And though I'm considering pre-med, I'm thinking of majoring/minoring in subjects other than the sciences, such as communications.

Because it will be your first year out of high school, those schools will still weight your high school gpa. Once you get into your sophomore year, then they'll be more lenient. Make sure you have a good transferring GPA and completed the pre-reqs. Good luck!

I'm not sure how much it'll affect you but it'll be a factor. Those grades are probably going to be heavily considered if you transfer your freshman year so maybe your sophomore year would be a better option especially for the schools you're looking at. Still, I say go for it as a freshman and see what happens, it can't hurt you.

Your chances depend on your first semester college grades and the rigor of coursework you are taking. So come back later when you can say for sure you have good grades in difficult courses.

If you're Asian American - look carefully into Vanderbilt (i.e how much racism there is against Asians) there have been many threads on it.
