So here's my story. I thought community college would be a good decision for me since I wasn't sure what I wanted to do career wise. I got accepted into every 4 year I applied to(3.7 GPA, 1810 SAT), but I chose to go to my local JC. I started there 4 weeks ago, and I'm seriously like depressed now. I have no friends, no social life, and I'm absolutely miserable. The classes are fine, except for the people.

Anyways, long story short, I want to transfer. I'm taking 15 credits right now. The school I want to go to(and every school I can afford in my state) doesn't accept lower division transfers. The drop date passed about a week and a half ago. So am I screwed?

If I drop all of my classes right now, I get W's on my transcripts. Technically I'll have no credits and can enter as a freshman, right? But I'll have W's on my transcripts that I have to turn into the college(I was accepted there last year). Are they likely to reject my application because of this? I want to go to CSU Chico.

Will I even have to say that I've been to college on my 2013 application if I drop out of community college? I assume that I will because I'll have a transcript there. It'll just be full of W's and I'll have 0 credits completed. XD That'll look just great on my transcript.

I'm officially freaking out right now and it's almost 10PM. It's going to be a sleepless night. I'm hoping someone here can help me. Thank you so incredibly much in advance.

I just had another thought. If I stay in my classes(the thought of dropping out completely kind of scares me), can I apply as a freshman but just not transfer any of my credits? Like if I take English 101 or whatever(which I haven't), can I just not transfer those credits and take English 101 again at the 4 year? That would solve basically all of my problems.

Alyssa, honestly it is not much better at a four-year university. I go to Cal Poly Pomona right now and I am not exactly having the time of my life here. Everything is study study study for any serious major. There are a lot of things you can take advantage of and have fun doing, but it is going to depend on YOU to make your friends.

I went to a community college for three years and I had some form of friends throughout the entirety. I especially made some amazing friends my last year there. One even transferred with me and one I still keep in contact with regularly.

You don't go to community college to make friends, you go there to bust your butt and get into a great college. That's where my relatively smart (3.8 GPA+, 2000 SAT) but not good enough friends as freshmen were and are now at UC Berkeley/UCLA transferring in.

Acceptance of lower-divison transfers is INSANELY low. Some do not even let you. They give their highest priority to junior-level transfers.

You need to send in your transcripts from all universities attended. Even if you just took a bunch of W's there (to my knowledge).

I suggest you suck it up, but you can always try and get in as a freshmen. I hope you know it is getting more and more competitive. If you are local to Chico, I'd say you'd have a fair shot entering as a freshmen. I know they go by things in tiers.

When you apply/transfer, any college will want all your records/transcripts so yes your CC will likely show up.

Choosing CC was a smart move on your part IMO. Imagine being at University, not knowing what you want to major in or switching majors. It can be a real headache and a financial drain. Join some clubs and get started in some extra curriculars. You'll meet new friends and get a better feel for the campus.

Also CalDud is right. University is not a whole lot better. My brother is at UCSB right now and is in the opposite position. He was very adamant about attending UCSB, its the perfect school, on the beach, lots of social life etc. 2 weeks in, the dorms are cramped, not much to do off campus, and surprise surprise, everyone is basically studying.

Junior level transfer is probably your best shot right now unless there are some loopholes in your college system.

By the way, what CC are you attending? I'm local to Chico (sort of) and I am in my last semester or two of CC. I've been to the Chico campus as well as Sac State as they are the closest CSU's. I plan on transferring to a UC though.

That's true, choosing CC is a good move. You could do TAG or TAP to get into most UCs you want with a pretty good GPA. Join ECs to know more people. I currently attend UCR and honestly, I really want to transfer out. It's not a bad place, but obviously the rep is not the greatest and there's really nothing to do. I practically go home every weekend and the only thing that I do on campus is EC to keep me busy. The one reason why I didn't choose to do CC was because of the lack of classes offered. I'm afraid of not being able to get classes.

Please do not withdraw from all of your classes unless you feel you cannot possibly get acceptable grades. These W's will be on your official transcript and will be a red flag on your academic record regardless of what grades you get in the future.

I definitely know where you're coming from with your current situation though. I attended my local commuter state school right after hs and hated it so much I considered doing the same thing you are thinking about. There was no social life and I hated everything about the school. But I stuck with it and adjusted, like I'm sure you'll do. I know it feels horrible right now, but it does get gradually better. I've taken everything that frustrated me about my situation and tried to use it to push me to get the grades that will get me into some great (and fun) schools.

If you are a CA resident I urge you to try to get your GPA as high as possible and try to transfer into the UC's. Not only do they have fantastic academic reputations but they have a great social scene plus tons of EC's. I don't know much about CSU Chico but if you can, make sure you visit to ensure it has all of the things you are missing from your current school. Good luck!

Lot of stories like this going around this year...

Don't drop the classes at CC - there will be a question on every application you ever fill out for any school from now on that asks you to list every school after HS that you attended. And they will want official transcripts.

What you should do immediately is call the 4yr school that you were both accepted at and now want to attend, and ask if you can start in January. Be honest with them - they often will offer you acceptance with the same FA without having to apply as a transfer student.

This stuff happens. Good Luck... But kind of a good reminder to everyone else how important Fit is....
