What are my chances of acceptance if I take a semester off?

I am a first year, first semester student enrolled at The New School in NYC. While I love my classes, I've learned that the city life is just not for me. Instead of sticking it out for another semester (and dropping another $10,000), I want to take a semester off and then transfer to Hamilton College.

My other option would be to go back home to Kansas City and go to University of Missouri-Kansas City for a semester, then try to transfer in the Fall.

Both options would save me money (though option 1 would save me more).

So I guess I am wondering would which option increases my chances of acceptance.

1. Taking a semester off, but coming from a more prestigious college, transfer in the Fall.
2. Going to UMKC in the Spring, then trying to transfer in the Fall.
