So, I'm a community college student, in my second year since last fall, and I'm trying to decide whether or not I should transfer at the end of spring/summer next year or stay for another year.

On one hand, I find the community college environment to be depressing and I'd like to get the hell out of here, but my GPA is a little weak and I'd only be able to go to the University of Kansas or the University of Missouri (my local schools).

But I want to go out-of-state, would staying in community college for an additional year bolster my chances.

By the way, did anybody else find the community college environment depressing, and how did you deal with it until you transferred?

I completely agree with you, community colleges are awfully depressing. The average age seems to be about 35 in my classes, and everyone is anti social so I take a good amount of classes online. I have 2 more semesters (including this one) and I'm out of here. I could not handle another year in CC its just awful. How bad is your GPA? I think you could get into a CSU pretty easy, San Marcos takes anyone.

As for Mizzou thats actually a pretty damn good school. I lived in Columbia, MO for a good 5 years when I was in elementary school and I always wanted to go to Mizzou. Now that I live in California I could never leave the luxury of the weather. Anyways I would get out if I were you, Mizzou is a fine school but if you want to get away (and I don't blame you) look into some of the CSU's.

I was placed on academic probation my fall semester for failing Intermediate Algebra and Elementary German, but I've retaken the Algebra class last spring and right now I'm retaking German, so my GPA is below 2.0 which sucks, but since that fall semester I've made a good comeback. So hopefully after I retake it my GPA will shoot back up to being at least mediocre and then I'd like to take additional courses just to bolster my GPA.

I took summer courses and that was considerably better since there were attractive, career-driven and sociable students in my classes from KU and K-State, but now it's gone back to being depressing with most of the slackers from high school and the middle-aged adults who are just now going back to school.

What you need to do is just kill it this semester and next, and make that the basis of your essays. You know? Like write about how you changed your life and habits and now your grades are way better etc. etc. etc.

As for JC yeah like I said its pretty terrible, try to figure out who the smarter people are in the class and go sit by them. There are a lot of hopeless people in those classes but there are also some really smart kids as well. Most importantly though just go hard this year and try to get straight A's if you can. I know it seems hard but its really not if you have perfect attendance and do all your assignments.

It's not uncommon to stay for 3 years, especially for harder majors. I'm in the same boat, I have this semester and then spring semester and I just want to get out of here so bad. I actually like CC but I think being in upper division at a university will give me that feeling like I am doing something with my life. I hope this makes sense.

My friend transferred two years after going to community college. She found it depressing because of the fact that it's almost like high school again. She basically did all her required courses to transfer. She got involved with a particular program to get herself out of CC. I just know know that she is a lot happier at a CSU
