Hi,
I am a sophomore at a community college. My GPA is 4.0 ( I am almost certain it is going to go down this semester thanks to a Chemistry class). I don't have any extracurricular activities but I do have volunteer hours.

So far I have applied to UT Austin, Texas Tech, U of Arizona, SUNY Binghamton, and SUNY Stony Brook. Texas Tech is a safety school and I am considering UT a reach. I want schools that I have a good chance of getting into if UT doesn't accept me.

I live in Texas and am looking in state as well as out of state. I'm majoring in geology.

You should consider Rice University. I have no idea why you would consider Austin a reach, unless the geology program there is very competitive or you took fluff courses your freshman year. The University of Michigan also looks to be very strong in geology. Just make sure to write with great enthusiasm why the school is a perfect fit in your essays.
